Bottom Line

The mid-range Golden Park Hotel is conveniently located
next to Budapest’s main train station, and is about a two-minute
walk to the Keleti Palyaudvar metro station. The 179 rooms are spread over seven floors of
an attractive Art Deco-era building. The hotel has been undergoing renovation since 2014, which means the rooms vary widely in quality -- Superior Rooms on the top floor, some of which have sitting areas, offer the most value. An Italian restaurant attached to the hotel gets
excellent reviews, and Wi-Fi is free throughout. Guests might also want to check out the Marmara Hotel Budapest, which has slightly higher rates but is in the heart of the
city center and closer to the river.

Scene

Art Deco-era building with wrought-iron balconies

Located in an attractive 100-year-old building
with a turret and beautiful wrought-iron Art Deco balconies, the Golden Park
Hotel stands out on a busy street near the main train station. The lobby is
spacious and bright but sparsely
decorated, with a few plants, an ornate table, armchairs, and a
marble-topped reception desk. The adjoining lobby bar has a dated look, with
worn red carpets, scuffed armchairs and big green shabby sofas, but the cheerful red carpets lining the corridors and stairways add a refreshing touch, and the breakfast room, with its high gallery ceiling and skylight, is pleasant and bright. The
Golden Park Hotel attracts couples on romantic city
breaks, business travelers, and tour groups.

Location

Convenient location with excellent transportation links

The Golden Park Hotel is located on a busy main street behind the Budapest-Keleti Railway
Terminal, the city’s main train station, with links to international
destinations, and is a two-minute walk to Keleti
Palyaudvar metro station. Many
buses and trams stop in front of the hotel. Located in a bustling busy business
district, the hotel is close to many tourist attractions, as well as shops,
cafes, and restaurants. Heroes’ Square next to City
Park, where the Museum of Fine Arts and Szechenyi Thermal Baths (the largest in Budapest) are located, is about a 15-minute bus ride. The historic Castle District is an eight-minute metro ride from the Golden Park, via Line M2, and the Arena Plaza shopping center is an eight-minute walk
away. Budapest Airport is a 24-minute drive away without traffic.

Rooms

Many rooms still awaiting renovation as of 2015; Superior Rooms offer the best value

The 179 guest rooms, along with the public spaces, have been undergoing renovation since 2014. Renovated Superior Rooms on the top level have dark hardwood floors and basic dark laminate furniture, white walls, and bright-red faux leather box stools. They come with mini-fridges and
Nespresso machines, and some offer separate sitting areas with faux
leather sofas -- TVs, however, are tube style. Unrenovated Standard Rooms show signs of wear and tear, such as holes in the curtains, torn carpets, scuffed walls, broken showerheads, and malfunctioning air-conditioning units; some smell musty.
All rooms are air-conditioned and come with free Wi-Fi. Beige-tiled bathrooms come with shower/tub combos, or showers only. All include hairdryers and magnifying mirrors. And some rooms have balconies, with scenic views over the city's rooftops.

Features

Pleasant breakfast room, Italian restaurant, lobby bar

The large breakfast room is
cheerful and bright, thanks to its high gallery ceiling, and has been updated with stylish white fabric chairs, a brown-and-beige patterned carpet, and an
ornate, gold-wrought chandelier hanging from the skylight. A hot and cold breakfast buffet is served here every
morning for an extra fee. Guests give Etna, an Italian restaurant attached to the hotel,
excellent reviews. There's a small
meeting room available next to the lobby, and a souvenir shop and
Finnish-style sauna located off the reception area. The lobby bar
serves drinks all day. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
