Situated just east of the city center about a half-hour walk from St. Stephen’s Basilica, this upper-middle-range hotel is wedged between neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau buildings. It offers a modern interior based around a multi-story atrium, and contemporary, if somewhat cheap-looking, interiors. The 57 rooms are comfortable enough, with stocked minibars, but feel a bit like dorms in their spare squareness; a good number look onto the interior atrium. While it lacks features, other than a free buffet breakfast and Wi-Fi, the hotel is a good value for its class. Both the tram and a metro station are within a couple of blocks; downtown Pest is a 15- to 20-minute trip, all told.

Contemporary hotel built around an airy atrium within a historic building
The Atrium Fashion Hotel is housed in a narrow building with a restored facade, tucked amongst neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau buildings on a small street with a cable car line. The small lobby -- and main common area of the hotel -- is a glassed-in, four-story atrium that exposes interior, wood-floored hallways onto which open the rooms. Striped balcony hangings and geometric wall sconces lend the ensemble a modern, design-oriented feel, and there are plants growing on the balconies of the top floor. Set with an oversize, lime-green couch, the lobby also has a couple of vitrines with traditional souvenirs for sale, a chic industrial fan, and some other interspersed low-lying seating. Hallways overlook the breakfast room, a long, narrow space with wood floors, turquoise chairs, and modern industrial-style light fixtures illuminating the buffet tables. Guests tend to be tourists keen on sightseeing and dining out in Budapest, and don't spend too much time socializing on the property.

St. Stephen’s Basilica is 30 minutes on foot, or 15 minutes via public transportation on one of the bus or tram lines that stop a couple of blocks away at Blaha Lujza station. It is possible to access the airport via public transportation, though it requires two transfers and a little over an hour’s travel time; the hotel can arrange for a taxi transfer from the airport if booked in advance, for a fee.

Bathrooms are on the small side, with not excessive amounts of space between the toilet, the granite vanity, and the shower/tub combo. Each room has bedside tables and lamps, a hairdryer, cosmetic mirror, safe, coffee and tea facilities, and stocked bar with a few snacks. Irons are available upon request.
