Scene

Fresh and classy with hip wallpaper and bold use of black and white

Opened in 2012, Sandton Pillows Brussels is situated in an immaculately white building with a classic facade. Inside, the lobby and bar area resemble a classy ice cream parlor, establishing the property's cozy ambiance. The hotel is welcoming throughout, and decorated with bold black and white touches, interestingly patterned wallpaper, and colorful prints. There's an equal mix of modern and classic style, as trendy designer furniture complements high ceilings and large windows in some of the guest rooms. The lounge/bar area has a feminine aesthetic, with deep purple walls, purple-striped couches, and animal-print armchairs -- there are also a few traditional glass jars filled with sweets on the bar, lending a sweet, child-like vibe. The lounge leads into the Shokki restaurant, which feels a bit more seductive thanks to black velour chairs and gold-hued, peacock feather wallpaper.

Location

Lovely Belgian ambiance, just a 10-minute walk from Grand Place

The hotel is about a block off the Anspach, a major road running through the heart of Brussels, but it feels quiet and quintessentially Belgian due to its being set in a small square removed from traffic. A popular Michelin-star restaurant sits adjacent to the hotel, and there are a few shops and residential buildings nearby as well. Public transport stops, including Gare de Bruxelles-Chapelle, are located within a five-minute walk, while the Grand Place square is just under a 10 minutes' walk. The central train station can be reached on foot in under 15 minutes.

Rooms

Unusual wallpaper and comfy beds; Royal Deluxe rooms come with minibars stocked with free treats

There are 41 Deluxe Rooms and four Royal Deluxe rooms at Sandton Pillows, and all are exquisitely decorated with high-end wallpaper and unique prints on the walls. The color scheme is generally black, gray, and bronze, with cream-colored walls for some added brightness, though some rooms have palettes of pinks and blues. Each room is air-conditioned, and has a comfortable bed, laptop safe, flat-screen TV, and minibar -- minibar items are free in Royal Deluxe rooms, which also have slippers and plush robes. Bathrooms are large with white marble and elegant brown paint, and glass-wall stall showers with rainfall showerheads -- these tend to get water on the floor, though, so guests should be careful. Wi-Fi is free in all rooms. There are no coffeemakers or tea kettles.

Features

Free Wi-Fi, great fusion restaurant, and chic lounge

Wi-Fi is free in rooms and throughout the hotel. A full continental breakfast buffet, with hot and cold Belgian specialties, is available for an extra -- quite substantial -- fee. Shokki Restaurant serves delightful, French-Asian fusion cuisine for lunch and dinner, and the hotel also has a welcoming bar and lounge area serving a variety of snacks and cocktails. The hotel is equipped with two meeting rooms, including an intimate boardroom with black-and-white abstract prints, and plush black armchairs around a long, wood table. The hotel is smoke-free and pets are not allowed.
