Bottom Line

This charming hotel has a cozy bed-and-breakfast vibe. The 111 rooms include suites and apartments in various sizes for singles, families, and business guests. They are simple and functional in design with a muted color scheme of white and taupe, while some suites are decorated with cottage-like accents such as plaid furniture and four-poster beds. The hotel is located in Ixelles and near the European Quarter, within a 15-minute walk of many sights; comparable hotels right in the center tend to be only slightly more expensive. Scene

Unpretentious small hotel with homey decor

The hotel has a warm and homey atmosphere. Much of the building is unpretentious, with simple neutral walls and fresh flowers placed in public areas. The library is decorated tastefully with cottage-style accents including plaid plush armchairs, wall sconces, and little knick-knacks lining the shelves. There is much history in the building, including an antique original wooden staircase leading to the garden suite and beautifully detailed crown moldings in the meeting rooms.

Location

Central location for business travellers, close to public transportation and museums

The hotel itself is on a street with mainly residential and office buildings. This is not a high-volume tourist area, and is a lot more convenient for a business traveler or a tourist looking to stay out of the touristy hustle and bustle. Hotel Leopold is just down the road from several embassies and large businesses. Minus the traffic from work commutes, the area is generally quiet. Up the road there are cafes, shops, restaurants, and a small park. Just two blocks away is the European Parliament. About a 15-minute walk away is the shopping area Avenue Louise, Royal Palace, and Brussels Park. The Place du Grand Sablon, an antique market rated one of the best places to visit in Brussels, is about 20 minutes away. For history and art, the Palais des Beaux-Arts, Royal Film Archive of Belgium, Musical Instruments Museum, and Magritte Museum are all within walking distance of each other and can be found along the road to Brussels Park. Most guests fly into Brussels Zaventem Airport and call a taxi. The commute is about 20 minutes.

Rooms

Simple and functional rooms vary in size

Rooms vary quite a bit in decor and size, but many are modern and stylish enough, with a muted color scheme of white and taupe. Standard Rooms are tiny, starting at just 150 square feet. Attractive wallpaper makes the Executive Rooms feel more upscale, while Garden Suites have the charming country style found in other parts of the hotel (expect four-poster beds and plaid accents). Unlike many other similarly priced hotels in Brussels, this hotel offers tea and coffee facilities in all of the rooms. Other amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars stocked with water and soft drinks, and modern bathrooms with walk-in showers and toiletries.

Features

Leopold Brasserie serves Italian and local Belgian meals with local beers, L'Ange Corner serves international fare, and a breakfast buffet is offered

The hotel has a number of spots to make guests feel welcomed and comfortable. The indoor terrace breakfast room is one of the nicest breakfast rooms in Brussels, with natural light and plenty of green plants. A tasty breakfast buffet includes eggs, bacon, beans, cold meats, and fresh pastries. There is fresh Italian coffee, as well as a selection of teas. The cozy hotel library is a beautiful addition to the hotel. The Leopold Bar can be found on ground floor and serves breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner. Light fare is available throughout the day. Additional dining options can be found in Leopold Brasserie, an extremely popular Italian restaurant where guests can enjoy a pasta buffet as well as Belgian meals and beers. L'Ange Corner, housed in a converted century-old mansion house, is where guests can find formal gourmet dining. This restaurant serves an international menu incorporating French and German cuisine. The hotel does offer in-room Wi-Fi and underground parking but for a daily fee. Wi-Fi in the lobby is free, and there are computers for guests to use here for free as well. A nice perk are the free electrical appliance adaptor rentals, also available at reception.
