Hotel Biskajer Adults Only

Situated in the shadow of mature trees on a pretty cobblestone square, the Biskajer is a mid-range hotel located in a largely residential section of central Bruges. The hotel has an extremely quiet, secluded, and quintessentially Bruges feel throughout. Guests enter the three-story white building to interiors with a mix of rusticity and elegance. The public spaces feature a color palette of slate blue, beige, white, and brown. The lobby is decorated with a Flemish tapestry-style wall hanging and gilt-framed mirror, while the charming breakfast room features stripped wooden beam ceilings, a red ceramic tile floor, chandeliers, portraits and decorative iron pans on the wall, and an artificial TV fireplace with figurines on the mantle. The simple and elegant bar lounge features chocolate brown upholstered chairs, landscape pictures on the walls, and a dark-wood cabinet with books. The Biskajer is a small, family-run hotel, similar to a bed-and-breakfast, resulting in a warm and personable atmosphere. The hotel draws mostly tourists and couples, who appreciate the cozy feel, free breakfast, and serene setting a short walk from the major attractions of Bruges. 

The Biskajer Hotel is situated on a small square in a quiet, residential area of Bruges. The hotel is less than a block south of the Jan Van Eyckplein bus stop. The Choco-Story chocolate museum is one block south. Market Square, the Belfort medieval tower, and Provincial Court are a three-minute walk southwest of the hotel. The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a four-minute walk south. Located a 10-minute walk southwest, the Groeninge Museum features 15th-century Flemish paintings. Next to the Groeninge is the Church of Our Lady and the Gruuthuse Museum, showcasing tapestries and other applied arts. The area with the Beguinage convent, De Halve Maan brewery, and Minnewater Lake is a 20-minute walk south. The Bruges train station is a five-minute drive, 10-minute bus ride, or 25-minute walk south of the hotel. Ostend-Bruges International Airport is a 35-minute drive west of the Biskajer. 

The Biskajer has 17 non-smoking rooms in a three-floor building with a small elevator. Rooms are available in Standard and Big Twin configurations. Rooms are clean and extremely quiet, given the hotel's location in a secluded residential area. They are on the small side, with not much extra space for moving around or luggage storage. They have a rustic and simple feel with touches of elegance, and a largely white, beige, and brown color palette, with bits of slate blue and jade green. Decorative elements in many rooms include chandeliers, simple wall art, and candelabra-style wall lamps. Rooms overlooking the quiet, leafy square at the front of the hotel have great views of a neighboring church. 

Rooms do not have air-conditioning, but one window is covered with mosquito netting so it can be opened at night for fresh air in the warmer months. All come with hairdryers, phones, in-room safes (too small for most laptops), free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. Some TVs are mounted on the walls and a little far from the bed to be seen clearly. Rooms do not have coffee/tea makers, minibars, or mini-fridges. Beds are fairly comfy and the hotel places chocolates on the pillows at night. One pesky feature is that some double beds are two twin beds pushed together, though this is common in the area. All rooms have private bathrooms, and they're clean and well lit, with decent counter space and good bath products. Some bathrooms are a little snug. 

As a small hotel, the Biskajer has few property facilities, with no full restaurant, fitness center, or business center. The hotel lays out an ample free continental breakfast spread including ham, cheese, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, pastries, toast, fresh fruit, yogurt, coffee, and juice in a lovely room with exposed wood beam ceilings and chandeliers. Jan van Eyckplein and the surrounding area offer a variety of restaurants and cafes for lunch and dinner. The hotel has a simple lobby bar with a small range of wine, beer, liquor, and cocktails. The reception desk is open from 7am to 8pm, with hotel access by room key after 8pm. Guests needing to check in after 8pm should notify the hotel in advance. Parking is available for a fee in a nearby public lot. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
