The three-pearl BKLYN House is a simple, yet funky hotel in the up-and-coming neighborhood of Bushwick in northern Brooklyn. There are a handful of nearby restaurants and shops, as well as a subway station (the JMZ line) just a three-minute walk away. All rates include a free hot buffet breakfast and there is free juice, tea, and coffee on offer throughout the day. Scene

Vibey hotel with local artists' murals throughout

BKLYN House is a funky industrial hotel that uses art to soften the edges. Local artists' work is found on the walls throughout the hotel, including large floor-to-ceiling New York-themed murals. Guests are welcomed into the small lobby with wooden vinyl floors, a small brown leather sofa, large potted plant, and small reception desk with a large New York themed mural on the back wall. The main common area features two large red leather sofas, white coffee tables, wooden vinyl floors, white walls, and brightly-colored contemporary artwork on the walls. Differing from the rest of the hotel, the breakfast room has a rather plain look with bare white walls, white and brown furniture, and a standard buffet station. Overall, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Guests here are mostly tourists looking for a more budget-friendly hotel in Brooklyn.

Location

Two blocks from the Flushing Avenue subway station in Bushwick

Located in the up-and-coming trendy neighborhood of Bushwick in the northern part of Brooklyn, BKLYN House has a more residential location than other city hotels. There are still a ton of restaurants and shops within walking distance, including hip bars and fast food joints. The art scene is picking up in Bushwick with several art galleries within walking distance from the hotel, along with the open-air gallery The Bushwick Collective which is an 11-minute subway trip away. Williamsburg, with trendy art and nightlife scene, is a 10-minute subway ride away while downtown Manhattan and downtown Brooklyn will each take about 20 minutes on the subway to reach. Brighton Beach and the New York Aquarium are about a 40-minute drive from the hotel. The nearest bus stop is just a minutes walk away and the Flushing Avenue Subway Station (with the JMZ line) is a three-minute walk from the hotel. JFK International Airport is about a 30-minute drive away.

Rooms

Loft-style rooms with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges

The 113 guest rooms at BKLYN House are designed in an industrial loft-style with a minimalist contemporary look and feel. Expect dark hardwood floors, white walls with dark charcoal feature walls, dark shutter blinds, light wooden furniture, and white linens. The minimalist design means that there is little to no storage space available, with an open-air railing and coat-hangars in place of a closet. Some of the Double Queen Rooms also include a modern brown leather sofa and a bit more space. Amenities in all rooms include air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, desks, telephones, irons and ironing boards, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms feature walk-in showers with Beekman toiletries, and some of the bathrooms are cramped.

Features

Free buffet breakfast, common area with computers, and free Wi-Fi

Like many smaller New York City hotels, BKLYN House offers a limited selection of features. There's a free buffet breakfast each morning, including eggs, cereals, waffles, muffins, and yogurts. A 24-hour station with free juice, tea, and coffee is available along with a few beverages on sale in the lobby. There is no full on-site restaurant. While the hotel does not have a fitness center, guests are offered a free day pass for two nearby gyms. A fairly large common area is available with two internet-connected computers and printing facilities. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property. The 24-hour reception offers a concierge service and ATM. There is no on-site parking available, though there is some free street parking in the neighborhood.
