The three-pearl Holiday Inn Boston-Brookline is ideal for
its location -- near tourist sites, Fenway, and Longwood Medical. Typical chain-like decor in the rooms is classy,
though the windows almost all face the interior of the hotel. The indoor pool and hot tub are extra perks, but their location on the first floor and surrounded on all sides by hallways makes for an awkward ambience. The price is
the best value for the area -- rates are certainly much lower than at the nearby
Courtyard Boston-Brookline, and include a free shuttle to Longwood Medical.
Scene
Typical chain hotel popular with families
The affordability, ease of access, and the indoor pool and hot tub means this is a popular hotel for families with small children. The hotel also attracts sports fans headed to Fenway or those wanting to take advantage of the hotel’s medical rate. The wide and bright lobby area stays busy day and night, thanks to the numerous lounge seats at the on-site bar and restaurant, Atrium. A cluster of plush gray armchairs and a sofa are centered around a glass table.
Location
On Beacon Street in Brookline, nearby several Green Line stops and close to hospitals
Holiday Inn Boston-Brookline is in Brookline, Massachusetts,
in front of busy Beacon Street and near two different Green Line stops. The
hotel is convenient to Children’s Hospital Boston, Dana Farber Cancer
Institute, and the Longwood Medical area (all are within a 10-minute taxi ride).
The hotel also offers a medical rate and free shuttle service to the Longwood
Medical area. Sports fans might appreciate the proximity to Fenway Park,
which is a five-minute drive away. The dining and nightlife choices are varied
and extensive --Coolidge Corner is only a six-minute walk and has a number of
bars and restaurants to choose from. Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall are a
15-minute drive from the hotel (or a 30-minute train ride), and the shops at
Copley and Newbury Street are 13 minutes away on the Green Line. The Isabella
Stewart Gardner Museum and the MFA are both about seven minutes away by taxi.
Rooms
Decor is bland but classy; many room windows face the interior of the hotel
The 226 rooms here are diverse in their layout and design,
but all share the usual amenities, like coffeemakers, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs. While
not standard to every room, microwaves and mini-fridges are available upon
request. The decor stays simple and classic (if somewhat bland) with tan
furniture, cream carpeting, and red accents throughout. Most rooms face the interior of the hotel rather than the
outside, meaning they don’t get much light. The tower rooms and suites on the
higher floors are all well-lit and spacious, though, and most do get some sun
during the day. Bathrooms are clean, with small showers and bath products
by Bath and Bodyworks.
Features
Indoor pool and hot tub, on-site bar and restaurant serving American breakfast and dinner
The indoor saltwater pool is quite large and next to a hot
tub, but is smack dab in the middle of the hotel, surrounded on all sides by
hallways leading to guest rooms. The placement makes for an awkward layout,
despite the waist-level fence meant to assure privacy to bathers. The on-site bar and restaurant, Atrium, offers a buffet
breakfast with plenty of options, as well as casual American dinner and drinks
at the lobby lounge or dining room. Wi-Fi is free at the Holiday Inn, and computers and printers
are available for guest use at the business center, tucked in a spacious sunny
corner of the lobby. Expect to pay for parking in a garage or fight for a free spot on the street.
