Bottom Line

The Mercure
Bristol Brigstow Hotel is a 116-room, upper-middle-range property located on the Welsh
Back waterfront in the center of Bristol, within easy walking distance of attractions. While most rooms are far from
spacious, decor is chic and modern -- if a little worn in places -- with impressive
amenities that include bathtub TVs. The only public space beyond the lobby is a small bar-restaurant, which offers a relaxed vibe and pleasant river
views. This is one of the top choices in the price range for the location, though the Holiday Inn Bristol City Centre is also worth considering.

Scene

Riverside chain hotel with simple, modern interiors

The Mercure Bristol Brigstow was built in 2001, and its white facade has begun to show signs of weather-wear. Typical of
the Mercure chain, the look and feel is smart and simple with straightforward modern
styling in its sparse and small reception area. There's not much in the way of
public space, save for the lobby and a modest-size bar-restaurant.
A pair of elevators ferry guests to one of 116 rooms spread across six floors,
though there have been reports of outages. The hotel generally draws
business travelers during the week, and tourists on weekends.

Location

Overlookingks the Welsh Back waterfront in the center of Bristol

The hotel is in the center of Bristol, overlooking the river and tree-lined, cobbled Welsh Back waterfront. It's within easy walking distance of numerous
restaurants and some of the city's trendier bars, while the popular Castle Park
is about a five-minute walk from the property. Bristol Temple Meads Railway
Station is  a 10- to 15-minute walk, and the Welsh Back Landing ferry terminal is right on the hotel's doorstep.

Rooms

Chic modern rooms with quirky layout and bathtub TVs

The hotel has 116
rooms, all of which have smart, modern styling with natural wood
floor, contemporary furnishings, and light neutral tones -- though some rooms
show signs of wear. The layout is
unusual, with the beds angled into rooms, which while it looks chic makes the
spaces seem smaller. Amenities include wide-screen TVs, mini-fridges, tea- and coffee-making facilities, and free high-speed Wi-Fi. Privilege Rooms come with Nespresso machines, soft drinks, and bathrobes. Bathrooms have heated towel racks, separate step-in showers, and  tubs with
integrated TVs. While some rooms have fine views of the river, views in lower-priced rooms are often obscured by trees, and can be noisy.

Features

Pleasant bar-restaurant with views over the water

The hotel's
Ellipse bar and restaurant is laid-back and intimate, offering lunch and
dinner menus that highlight regional cooking, with some tables offering views over the
water. While there's no on-site parking, an car park is around the
corner, and guests receive a discount -- though it's still pricey. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the property.
