Bottom Line

The 234-room Jurys Inn Brighton is a solid mid-range hotel situated directly across from Brighton station. The location otherwise feels unremarkable, though guests can easily walk to restaurants, and the seafront is about a 20-minute walk. Guest rooms, renovated in 2016, are modern with gray and teal accents, and they're outfitted with flat-screen TVs, electric kettles, and free WI-Fi. The hotel has a restaurant and bar, offering a daily breakfast buffet (extra fee), lunch, and dinner, plus draft beers, a coffee menu, and a wine list. Room service is available through the night. There are also nine meeting rooms, but no fitness facilities. For something closer to the sea, travelers might compare rates with any of the mid-range hotels that dot the beach, like Amsterdam Hotel Brighton or Brighton Harbour Hotel & Spa.

Scene

Comfortable, mid-range chain-property with restaurant and bar

Jurys Inn Brighton is situated in a plain rectangular building with a flat beige and white facade. During our visit in late 2016, the lobby and restaurant were tasteful, if a bit dated, with light wood furniture and rust-red accents typical of slightly older chain hotels, though everything felt clean, well-maintained, and functional. The property, however, was undergoing renovations to its common area in mid-2017, and if the renovated guest rooms are any indication, these spaces will become stylishly modern (if a touch impersonal). Many of the rooms at the hotel can accommodate families, while the location right across from the train station attracts a range of travelers, including business guests. Do note: This property should not be confused with Jurys Inn Brighton Waterfront, a higher-end, waterfront property in Brighton that's part of the same chain.

Location

Right across from Brighton Station, a 20-minute walk to the seafront

Jurys Inn is situated just across from the Brighton Train Station near a multi-story car park and some office buildings. It's not the most attractive location, but it is convenient: with the train station across the street, guests can get to London in just an hour. Restaurants and shops on London Road are reachable in about five minutes on foot. However, the location may not be ideal for those who want to hangout at the beach. The seafront, Brighton's main attraction, is a bit of a hike, but it can be reached in about 20 minutes on foot (though the walk home is uphill). Theatre Royal Brighton and Brighton Dome are about a 15-minute walk. Gatwick Airport is a straight shot from Brighton Station, just a 20-minute ride, but Heathrow Airport takes at least two hours via public transit. Parking is available across the street, but some guests find it pricey.

Rooms

Comfortable rooms for up to four guests, with a fashionable gray-and-teal color palette

Upgraded in 2016, guest rooms are by far the most fashionable aspect of the Jurys Inn Brighton. They feature a modern color palette and stylish details like velvety gray button-tufted headboards set agains teal accent walls. Upholstered chairs in teal with pink throw pillows and other trendy accents liven up the more standard features, like striped wall-to-wall carpeting, open wardrobes, and gray-washed laminate furnishings. White tiled bathrooms have somewhat incongruous stripes of rust-red tiling (presumably leftover from pre-renovated days) but they're clean and tasteful, usually featuring combination showers and tubs. Rooms and bathrooms are modest but adequately sized, with upgraded rooms adding extra space. With pull-out sofas or single beds, some rooms can host three or four guests. Rooms have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs with Freeview, free Wi-Fi, irons and ironing boards, and coffee and tea service with electric kettles. Bathrooms come stocked with hairdryers and Gilchrist & Soames toiletries in dispensers. On the downside, there are no in-room mini-fridges or minibars.

Features

Casual restaurant and nice bar, but no wellness facilities

This Jurys Inn has the solid lineup of features that travelers would expect from the chain. The hotel has a decent casual restaurant, open for a standard daily breakfast buffet (extra fee) with hot and cold options. Dinner is available in the late evening, and The Bar offers lighter fare ideal for lunch or a casual dinner (think sandwiches, burgers, pizza). The Bar also has a coffee menu, beer on draft, and a wine list. Kids menus are available, and room service is offered from the afternoon all through the night. The hotel has nine meeting rooms, which can accommodate up to 110 guests, and offers audiovisual equipment and catering options. Wi-Fi is free throughout the property as well. The lobby has an ATM and a vending machine offering snacks and toiletries like deodorant and toothbrushes, plus the front desk is open 24 hours and can arrange for laundry service. On the downside, there are no on-site wellness facilities, and parking across the street costs an extra fee. The front desk is open 24 hours, and guests find staff helpful.
