Scene

An intimate hotel with a caring and relaxed vibe

A feeling of warmth and welcome pervades the Pousada Jardim Secreto, a small, boutique-style dwelling with lovely gardens catering mostly to couples. A family affair run with obvious pride, this hotel takes customer service seriously. Arriving here feels more like arriving at a private residence than an inn, and it's not uncommon to see guests hugging their hosts farewell upon departure. The exterior is a mixture of blue-gray slatted wood and brick, and feels earthy and homey at the same time. Interior common areas are pretty much nonexistent here beyond each private room, but the gardens are where the communal feel comes to life, along with the lovely flora and fauna. Though not really "secret" gardens, there are definitely delightful surprises throughout the grounds in the form of oranges and persimmons that guests are allowed to "harvest," gorgeous blooming flowers including hydrangea and geraniums, and wooden bird houses. There is also a covered area where guests may sit and take in the outdoor splendor. Though not large, the gardens make the whole property feel more relaxed and tranquil.

Location

In a quiet residential area outside of Gramado

Located about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the center of Gramado, the Pousada Jardim Secreto is in a lovely residential neighborhood with a few other inns nearby. Though slightly removed from the downtown area, there are supermarkets and a few restaurants  -- including a pizzeria and a fondue place -- within an easy 10-minute walk. The famous Mini Mundo is about a five-minute walk and other area attractions including Black Lake Park and Joaquina Rita Bier Lake are within a couple of minutes on foot. The Caxias do Sul Airport is about an hour and twenty minutes by car.

Rooms

Charming, cozy, and clean with modern touches

There are 12 separate rooms available at the Pousada Jardim Secreto, and all have their own individual charm and decor. Most are perfect for couples, though a few of the spaces, like the Chalet, can sleep more. The rooms are simple but pleasing and seem to mesh effortlessly with the relaxed garden environment. Wood floors, comfortable furnishings in earth tones, and cheerful colors give the spaces a homey feel; some rooms have loft spaces, living areas, or fireplaces, while others are smaller but still delightfully cozy. Modern amenities in all rooms include minibars, air-conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and flat-screen TVs with cable channels and first-run movies available for viewing. Bathrooms have hairdryers, a few general toiletries, and walk-in showers -- these are generally very clean, though there are mineral deposits on some showerheads. The beds are outfitted with Egyptian cotton sheets, and there are blackout curtains on the windows allowing guests the option of sleeping in. Daily housekeeping is the norm, and the property -- which was built in 2012 -- is well-maintained.

Features

Outstanding daily breakfast, afternoon tea, and free parking

While there are no real amenities on-site like a gym, spa, pool, business center, or restaurant, there is a terrific daily breakfast served for guests that's included in the room rate. Selections include breads, homemade jams and pastries, eggs, fruit, juices, tea, coffee, and more. In the afternoon, there is also tea served in the outdoor garden area that includes a selection of teas and cakes. It's the perfect time to relax outside with a book, watch the birds, or engage in conversation while enjoying the delightful garden setting and the very warm demeanor of the hosts. Parking is free, and though it is mostly outside and driveway-like, it's safe -- as is the whole property in general.
