Kimpton Nine Zero Hotel

The Nine Zero Hotel is a fun and funky spot with lots of visual drama as well as one-of-a-kind extras that make a stay here feel special for both humans and their canine companions. The lobby has a social vibe, with plenty of seating on purple velvet couches and vibrant decor that gives it an energetic feel. The hotel's design combines Art Deco and Industrial, with lots of patterns and interesting lighting. Each evening, the hotel holds a free wine tasting (with full pours), which encourages socializing among the guests. There are free newspapers and coffee or tea available in the lobby all day long, as well as a contemporary chess board. The busy street view is interesting, although it can get crazy after a sports event at the nearby TD Garden. The Highball Lounge is a sexy place for a drink, with a bar that has been constructed out of old library cabinets, and other eclectic design elements. Even the business center is comfortable and attractive, with stuffed armchairs and couches, as well as nice lighting. The Nine Zero delivers a unique experience in a major urban center, as has come to be expected of Kimpton Hotels.   

The Nine Zero Hotel is located on the Freedom Trail, a block from Boston Commons Park, near the Park Street and Downtown Crossing T Stations. The area is safe and busy both day and night. The hotel does get some street noise, especially when there are concerts or sporting events at the nearby TD Garden. Across the street from the Nine Zero is a historic graveyard, the Granary Burial Grounds. Within a 15-minute walk, guests can visit the dining and shopping center at Quincy Market or the New England Aquarium, Boston Tea Party Museum, and Waterfront area. The historic sites, Federal townhouses, shops, and restaurants of Beacon Hill are a two block stroll from the lobby. A Walgreens pharmacy just around the corner is convenient. Boston’s Financial District offices are a short walk away, making the Nine Zero a good choice for business travelers as well as tourists.

Rooms at the Nine Zero are small but hip and comfortable. Categories vary in amenities and views; skyline views are the most interesting and atmospheric, featuring funky indigo lighting and a cool graphic mural of the State House on the wall. Each room is designed with quirky upscale decor that features a black-and-white color palette and brushed chrome accents. Furniture includes a leather or stuffed armchair and a full-size desk. Beds, either kings or queens, come with pillow-top mattresses. Even the bathrobes have flair, with animal print lapels. Bathrooms are tight but elegant, with glass shower stalls, marble sinks, and free C.O. Bigelow toiletries. Other amenities include 27-inch flat-screen TVs, iPod docks, minibars, laptop safes, and a cocktail shaker.

The Nine Zero Hotel offers fun and convenient features. There's a well-equipped fitness center with Precor cardio and strength-training machines, hula hoops, jump ropes, exercise balls, a flat-screen TV, and headphones to borrow. The hotel organizes morning group runs with the General Manager on select days, and guests may borrow yoga mats for use in the rooms. Loaner bikes are available for cruising the waterfront or exploring the area. The Highball Lounge serves drinks, appetizers, and light food all day long, as well as breakfast for a surcharge. The menu combines Southern, soul, and Asian flavors, and the drinks menu runs the gamut from fancy craft cocktails and Pabst Blue Ribbon. There's a free daily wine happy hour (with generous pours), where guests can socialize or stake out a comfy lobby couch and relax. The Nine Zero offers a variety of pet amenities, including beds and dishes, welcome gifts, and even pet massage (which costs extra, just like in-room massage for human guests). There's a business center with meeting space for working travelers. Wi-Fi is only free for members of the Kimpton Karma Rewards program, which is free to sign up for. Frequent guests can leave belongings (even laundry to be done) with the concierge between visits. Valet parking is available on-site for a fee, with in and out privileges.
