Gritty neighborhood location creates unappealing views
The Hampton Inn Boston/Cambridge is a clean and pleasant, yet unremarkable chain
hotel located in a gritty, industrial
area, one mile from downtown Boston. It is convenient to Harvard and MIT, but ugly views look out over busy streets and
an active construction site. Rooms are clean and rather large for urban accommodations. This two-and-a-half pearl hotel provides the
basics for those traveling on a budget, but might not be suitable for guests who
want a "unique New England experience," outstanding decor, or specialty
offerings.
Scene
Provides the basics for family-friendly traveling
The lobby and common areas are decorated in conservative
earth tones, featuring brick red furniture and geometric designs. The lobby has
many couches, chairs and tables, so there is plenty of space for people to sit
down and meet. Adjacent to the lobby is a dining room with more seating, which houses the breakfast buffet in the morning, and serves as a pleasant common area the rest of the day, complete with a 24-hour coffee bar. A long wooden table in the room is lined with outlets to serve as a work space as well. However, the common areas can get quite busy in the morning and evening. Both the lobby and dining room have large,
flat-screen televisions and plentiful electrical outlets for charging
electronic devices.
Location
Convenient for business and leisure travelers
If guests can overlook the unattractive neighborhood, the convenient
location might be this hotel's best feature. The Hampton Inn is only one mile
from downtown Boston and Mass General Hospital. Commuters can easily
access the MBTA's Green Line to North Station,
or hop on Route 28 to get to Boston proper in less than five minutes. The
Hampton Inn is three miles from Fenway Park, home of the Red Sox, and four
miles from Boston Logan International Airport. Travelers visiting the MIT campus, also a mile away, and Harvard, are likely to find this commute ideal. Boston's cultural centers, green spaces, and tourist attractions are a short ride away from the Hampton Inn.
Rooms
Clean and minimalist
Rooms are spacious for an urban hotel, clean and tidy, with
32-inch flat-screen televisions and 47 HD channels. Room options include one or two beds. Those with only one bed also have a couch; all have desks. Other perks include irons and ironing boards, plus safes. For those traveling with electronics, there are ample electrical outlets. Dark, bold wood furniture and clean, white coverlets on the bed give the room a cozy, modern feel. Guests will find coffeemakers in their
rooms, with generic brand complimentary coffee, as well as ice buckets and
disposable cups. Bathrooms are large and have WaterPik adjustable massaging
shower heads. Neutrogena soap, hair care
products, and lotion are provided by the hotel. Some rooms look out over an unattractive construction
site and traffic from the nearby highway makes a dull hum in the background.
Blackout drapes are not offered, so those who need to sleep during the day or
are sensitive to light pollution, might find this bothersome.
