Bottom Line

The three-pearl Hampton Inn and Suites Boston
Crosstown Center is thoroughly middle of the road -- not bad
and not exceptional. It's next door to Boston Medical Center and a five-minute drive to downtown; the immediate area is deserted at
night. The free airport and hospital shuttles offer a level of comfort, as do
the spacious 175 guest rooms with coffeemakers -- though traffic noise and ambulance sirens
can make for a potentially noisy stay. Breakfast and Wi-Fi are free. Those on a budget may want to compare rates with the more basic BEST WESTERN PLUS Roundhouse Suites nearby, though note that it lacks the indoor pool found here.

Scene

The hotel's proximity to hospitals attracts many guests in town for a medical-related stay.

Hampton Inn and Suites Boston Crosstown Center’s proximity
to Boston Medical Center as well as its affordable medical rate, free shuttle
service, and indoor pool makes this a popular choice for families and
individuals needing medical attention. However,
the hotel’s classy vibe and decently convenient driving access to the Hynes Convention Center and Fenway Park means
the hotel gets a diverse group of guests that include business travelers and sports
fans. The spacious and quiet lobby includes remnants of a former
on-site restaurant and bar, with high bar seats, large tables, and lots of
comfortable lounge seats.

Location

Next door to Boston Medical Center

The hotel is in a part of Boston that's somewhat busy during the day, as it’s a five-minute walk to Boston Medical Center, though the immediate neighborhood can be deserted at night. It’s close to Dunkin Donuts, a burrito shop, and a
pizza place; there's an Asian restaurant just next door. South Boston’s nicer restaurants are close -- like the popular tapas
bar Toro, an eight-minute walk, and Darryl’s Corner Bar and Kitchen, a live
jazz club that’s about a 15-minute walk from the hotel. Baseball fans should know that Fenway Park is around a 10-minute drive from the hotel, and business guests can drive to the Hynes Convention Center in a similar amount of time. Those who want to be near to those destinations as well as other tourist sights should consider hotels in Back Bay; this hotel isn't walking distance to popular sightseeing spots. The Massachusetts Avenue T-station and the
Orange Line are about an 18-minute walk, or buses in front of the hotel go in all directions throughout Boston. Expect to pay for parking at the hotel.

Rooms

Chain-like decor with flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers

The major complaint here is the noise from street-facing
rooms. It comes not just from the traffic on busy Massachusetts Avenue; the added proximity to Boston
Medical Center means there are ambulance sirens. Interior rooms face a much calmer courtyard and the higher up you go, the
less likely that these disturbances will reach the room. The 175 rooms here are large, modern, and come with
flat-screen TVs and coffeemakers. Suites offer microwaves and mini-fridges. The decor is simple and generic: dark mahogany furniture, and bedding and carpets in shades of tan and cream. Abstract black-and-white photography hangs on
the walls. Bathrooms are clean and brightly lit and feature shower/tub combos, Neutrogena toiletries, and single sinks set in to long vanities. Earplugs and make-up remover cloths are an unexpected touch.

Features

Free breakfast, sunny indoor pool, and small fitness center

Features at this Hampton Inn & Suites are better than expected. The indoor pool is quite large and in a sunny room on the
top floor, overlooking the city and next to a 24-hour fitness center. The small
gym offers limited but modern machines, medicine balls, water, and a scale for
exercisers. There is no on-site restaurant, but there is a grab-and-go shop next to the lobby for candy and snacks. Breakfast is offered as part of the room rate and offers ample choices like waffles, bagels, and eggs. Wi-Fi is free here, and the business center is in a small
room off the lobby, with various computers and a printer for guest use. A free shuttle to the airport and Boston Medical Center are nice perks.
