Staying at Encore Bed and Breakfast is a lot like spending the weekend at a good friend's historical townhouse; the bed and breakfast is in fact a 19th-century townhouse owned and operated by a friendly couple. There are only four contemporary style guest rooms located on the top two floors of the house, and a cozy breakfast nook where a free continental breakfast is served each morning. Rates and stay requirements vary by season. The location on a posh residential street in Boston's hip South End neighborhood means easy walking distance to a variety of high-end restaurants and shops.
Scene
Quaint, cozy, and too intimate for some -- with a theater theme
Because the property is small, with just four guest rooms and a breakfast nook, anonymity is nearly impossible. If you're the type of person who prefers to keep to themselves on vacation, this isn't the hotel for you. The historic townhouse includes arched windows, exposed brick, and hardwood floors. The theater loving owner has added theater memorabilia and carnival masks to the walls as decoration. Steps leading up to the hotel and to the guest rooms are steep and narrow. Those with mobility issues will want to book a room on the lowest floor available. Kids under the age of 10 are discouraged.
Location
Hip and convenient South End location
The townhouse is located at the end of a quiet residential street surrounded by other Victorian townhouses so guests get to feel like a posh resident during their stay. Tremont Street is just around the corner. It's loaded with high-end restaurants, shops, and art. The T station isn't as conveniently located as the bus from Tremont Street which takes passengers downtown. Back Bay is within walking distance.
Rooms
Clean and contemporary with private bathrooms
There are four guest rooms at Encore Bed and Breakfast located on the top two floors of the Victorian townhouse. Each has exposed brick and different contemporary decor. Queen beds, flat-screen TVs, and Bang Olufson sound systems are standard. Eames-style desk chairs are pushed into sleek desks. Walls are decorated with theater posters. The Albee room includes a window seat and furnished balcony with views of Boston's skyline. Walls are painted purple and there's a patchwork style rug on the hardwood floor. Clean bathrooms have shower/tub combinations or single shower stalls. Aveda toiletries are a luxe touch.
Features
Freebies like continental breakfast and Wi-Fi
Because the property is small, there isn't room for a lot of public features. Continental breakfast is served each morning and includes pastries from nearby bakeries, strong coffee, and juice. A strong Wi-Fi signal is free throughout the hotel. The owner is happy to suggest restaurants and give advice for nearby activities and entertainment. Pets are not allowed.
