Scene
Chain hotel with attractive breakfast area and outdoor pool patio
The Holiday Inn Express Boone is
a modern, five-story building with architecture and accents typical of budget chain hotels, including stone accent features and an archway at
the entrance. Inside, the lobby has rustic features like decorative wooden
vines decorating the front desk and a soaring white stone fireplace with a tree
carved into it. The large lobby area has tall ceilings and big windows facing
the parking lot. The breakfast area is shared with the lobby seating area, so
guests can dine at tables and watch news on the flat-screen TV or enjoy a cup
of coffee in front of the fireplace from one of the leather chairs or couch. Given the hotel's proximity to Appalachian State University, it is especially popular with visiting families, as well as business travelers.
Location
Near Appalachian State University, a short drive from Boone's town center
The hotel is located
on Highway 321 in the Blue Ridge Mountains, less than a five-minute drive from Appalachian State University. The surrounding area is home to the local hospital, a number of sports fields, and some shopping complexes with plenty of fast food and casual restaurants. Boone Golf Course is
less than 10 minutes away, and there are a number of ski areas within an hour’s
drive, such as Sugar Mountain, Beech Mountain, and Appalachian Ski Mountain.
The region also has plenty of parks for hiking, cycling, and camping. Grandfather Mountain,
the tallest mountain in the Blue Ridge Mountains, is around a half-hour drive from the hotel; the Blue Ridge Parkway is less than 15 minutes away.
Rooms
Clean, classic, chain-standard rooms with microwaves and mini-fridges
Rooms at the hotel are clean, spacious, and styled in keeping with the chain brand's aesthetic, with classic
wooden furnishings such as desks, night stands, and headboards. Walls are light, and some rooms have patterned
carpeting while others have wooden floors. Chairs and bathroom walls in lime
green enliven the color palette. All rooms have coffee/tea facilities,
microwaves, mini-fridges, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Bathrooms are spacious, with shower/tub combinations, granite countertops, and amenity kits that include a lime green shower
cap. Suites have fireplaces and whirlpool tubs, while some rooms have private balconies looking out on the mountains.
Features
Outdoor pool, off-site fitness center, and free breakfast buffet
The hotel has an outdoor pool with a deck and a hot tub, but the area is small and
not especially scenic. Access to a nearby fitness center is also provided. The free breakfast buffet
includes hot items, cereal, fruit, and cinnamon rolls. The hotel has a
business center with two computers and two printers, and a meeting room is
available for private events. Coin-operated
laundry machines are available, and the hotel offers free parking.
