Reports of poor
soundproofing between rooms
The SavHotel is a
mid-range modern hotel that largely exists for guests in town for
exhibitions or conferences at the nearby Bologna Fiere and Congress Palace
venues. The 120 rooms are sleek, contemporary, and minimalist, though they can feel a
little too sparse and thin walls have been reported. A real highlight is the
spacious rooftop terrace, which can be used for sunbathing in the summer. A
free, generous breakfast buffet is also a bonus and free bike loan is a nice touch. Tourists
would find themselves a little far out for easy access to Bologna's historical
center, but if the location suits, it's a reasonably priced and attractive option.
Scene
Striking, modern, business-oriented hotel with sleek contemporary design
The SavHotel
occupies a modern building flanked by towers of shimmering tiles and
fronted with a facade of brushed steel and sheets of mirrored glass. Built in
2006, the sharp 21st-century design continues into the lobby, where clean lines
and a sleek finish create an unfussy, contemporary mood. The hotel
backs onto a tidy, quiet square with a patch of lawn and recently planted
trees, while inside a pair of elevators service the hotel's six floors up to a
spacious, rooftop terrace overlooking the surrounding residential apartment
blocks. This principally business-oriented hotel attracts corporate guests
during the week, as well as those in town for exhibitions at the nearby expo
center and some tourists happy staying away from the bustling city center.
Location
Set in a residential area on the northern outskirts of Bologna close to the expo center
The hotel is
located in a residential area on the northern outskirts of Bologna, surrounded
by green spaces and apartment blocks. The location is particularly convenient for those
in town visiting the Bologna Fiere S.P.A. exhibition venue and Congress Palace
being less than 10 minutes away on foot. Bologna's Central Station is about a
mile away or about a five-minute bus journey -- the bus stop is just outside
the hotel -- it's then about another mile into the city center. Proximity to
links to the main arterial ring road also means easy access by car from the
rest of Italy and Bologna's Guglielmo Marconi Airport -- about a 20-minute
drive away.
Rooms
Smart, minimalist rooms with contemporary bathrooms
The hotel's 120
rooms have minimalist interiors with polished wood floors and clean-lined
contemporary furnishings. Amenities include free and fast Wi-Fi, stocked minibars, and 27-inch flat-screen TVs -- though there are few
English channels and no tea/coffee facilities in-room. Beds are particularly
comfortable and bedside tables become glowing light boxes when switched on.
Bathrooms are also smart and contemporary with wall-mounted hair dryers and
adequate bath products. Rooms are generally spacious with high ceilings, though
there have been reports of poor soundproofing between rooms.
Features
Extensive free buffet breakfast and spacious furnished rooftop terrace
An extensive hot
and cold buffet breakfast is served each morning in the bright, airy NeroArancio
restaurant and is included in the rate. The restaurant also serves an a la carte
menu of Italian favorites throughout the day, while the hotel's Lounge Bar
offers a wide selection of cocktails as well as an excellent variety of
Italian wines. A real highlight is the hotel's furnished rooftop terrace, which
is a great spot to sunbathe during sunny weather with views over the
surrounding area. Smokers have a specified lounge while the health conscious have access to a fitness room and free bike
loan. Free Wi-Fi is also available throughout the hotel while guests arriving
by car have access to a private garage (for a fee).
