The Diamond of Bodrum is a mid-range, all-inclusive hotel set on a hillside overlooking the picturesque Bodrum Bay. Its practically city-center location means there's plenty within a short walk, including the city's renowned nightlife strip. Superb views are the hotel's main drawcard, and around half of its 201 rooms open to balconies facing the sea. However, in-room amenities are lacking, furnishings such as bedspreads and tube-style TVs are dated, and some room views are non-existent. Features include three bars, an a la carte restaurant, and an outdoor pool, plus access to a small private beach and lots of kids' activities. For a quieter option away from the bustle, the Hotel Manastir just up the hill has even more stunning views and an infinity pool, though its not all-inclusive.
Scene
All-inclusive hotel with compact terraces and direct beach access
Thanks to its perfectly symmetrical, patchwork stone-clad facade, polished metal sign, and tidy arrangement of flowers, the Diamond of Bodrum makes a great first impression. Stepping inside, the reception is bright and simply styled with a circular skylight and elegant seating. What really steals the show, however, is a wide panorama of wall-to-wall windows that look out over numerous boats bobbing on Bodrum's sweeping and picturesque bay.
Built on a hillside, the all-inclusive property slopes down in a series of tiered terraces -- fashioned from a combination of mosaic tiling, natural-effect rock, and wood decking -- that make efficient use of the limited space. Accessed via an elevator, a tunnel also connects under a cobbled seafront thoroughfare directly to the hotel's private sandy beach and the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean. Clientele tends to be younger couples and families with kids.
Location
Hillside setting overlooking Bodrum Bay, close to city's nightlife
The hotel is set on the east side of Bodrum Bay overlooking the water toward Bodrum Castle. It's positioned just between the outskirts of the city center and its upmarket residential district, meaning there are numerous dining options within easy walking distance. Much of the nightlife for which the city is famous is also a short walk from the hotel, including Bodrum's biggest nightclub -- Halikarnas -- just a five-minute walk away. The charming and pedestrianized Old Town, with its cobbled streets and shopping, is also 10 to 15 minutes away on foot, while the castle is about 20 minutes. Milas-Bodrum Airport is about a half-hour drive away, traffic permitting.
Rooms
Bright, simple rooms, half with bay views -- though some overlook wall
Similar to the lobby, decor in the hotel's 201 rooms is bright and simple, featuring parquet floors, dated floral fabrics, and prints of artwork by Gustav Klimt. Around half the rooms have sea views from furnished balconies, though some are partial and some look out to an opposite wall. All rooms are air-conditioned and come with well-stocked minibars (not included in the all-inclusive plan) plus tube-style TVs with some international channels. Bathrooms are clean and well-maintained -- though a little old-fashioned -- with shower/tub combos, wall-mounted hairdryers, and hotel-brand toiletries. In-room Wi-Fi is not available.
Features
All-inclusive dining, several sea-view bars, and indoor and outdoor pools
The Diamond is an all-inclusive hotel so all rates include buffet-style breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the hotel's main restaurant, which has a bright and spacious dining room that extends to a terrace. Guests can also have one free meal per stay in the a la carte restaurant (with prior reservation), which features views of the bay. All three bars have sea views -- the best are from the canopied upper-floor terrace bar -- and offer soft drinks and local alcoholic beverages that are a part of the all-inclusive plan.
The hotel has two swimming pools: One is outdoors and has sea views, a separate kids' pool, and adjacent whirlpool tub; the second is located inside in the spa, where there are also a sauna and traditional Turkish bath. Unusual for a city hotel, there's a private, fine-sand beach lined with lounge chairs, though it's small and can get crowded. Children are kept entertained with a kids' club, while evening entertainment comes in the form of poolside music and dance. There are also a game room and a gym with modern equipment and free weights. Wi-Fi is available in the lobby, but its slow.
