Bottom Line

The Blackpool FC Hotel and Conference Centre is a 70-room, soccer-themed hotel attached to Blackpool Footballs Club's Bloomfield Road stadium. This is certainly its main selling point, offering views over the pitch from its bar and restaurant, and many of the rooms. Beware, however, guests can't watch any games from inside the hotel, and even have to vacate their room when games are happening. Rooms are clean and modern, if not quite up to advertised four-star standards. The hotel charges a little more for its setting rather than its facilities, so it's probably not worth the extra for guests who aren't soccer fans.

Scene

A celebration of Blackpool Football Club attached to its stadium

Being attached to Blackpool Football Club's stadium, the Blackpool FC Hotel and Conference Centre is very much a one-of-a-kind landmark hotel. Its contemporary boxy facade includes splashes of the football's club signature orange, while an ill-fitting sign jars with this exterior color scheme. Inside, however, decor is more tasteful, with a mixture of elegant period and smart contemporary furnishings and Blackpool FC-related photos and newspaper cuttings hanging on the crisp white walls of the reception area. Long, straight hallways are also decorated with soccer-related memorabilia. The atmosphere varies wildly between peaceful and relaxing on a non-match day, and buzzing and noisy when the local team is playing at home. However, although guests might hear the match, it is not permitted to watch games from anywhere in the hotel.

Location

Located in Blackpool FC's landmark stadium, a mile from the Pleasure Beach

The hotel is located in Blackpool FC's Bloomfield Road soccer stadium on in the southwest of Blackpool. The rides and amusements of Blackpool Pleasure Beach is just over a mile away to the south, while the Blackpool Tower is a mile in the other direction. The nearest train is a half-mile away at Blackpool South station, while the airport is two miles, or a 10-minute drive away.

Rooms

Many rooms offer views of soccer pitch, though not of matches

The hotel has 70 rooms, all of which are decorated in a simple, contemporary style with warm woods, patterned fabrics, and purple carpeting. In-room amenities include large 40-inch flat-screen TVs, climate control, and free Wi-Fi, while clean and modern bathrooms all come with hairdryers and Blackpool FC branded toiletries. While many rooms overlook the soccer pitch, it is forbidden to watch actual games, and guests must vacate their room for the duration.

Features

Second-floor restaurant serving British favorites with pitch views

The hotel's second-floor restaurant, Rowley's, serves a seasonally inspired menu of British classics with large windows overlooking the pitch (though it is closed during matches). The connected bar, however, does provide ample seating and a pull-down projector screen for guests to watch the games as they're broadcast. The hotel also has a small, wood and marble spa offering facials, and a gym with over 30 fitness machines and free weights. There are a few conference facilities holding up to 320 people in attractive surrounds with tall windows and wood floors, and smaller meeting rooms for up to eight people -- catering is done by Rowley's. Breakfast is included in the rate and on-site parking is also free of charge (though limited spaces).
