The funky rooms and sustainable philosophy of The Circus Hotel appeals to a younger, more adventurous crowd who make up most of the guests hanging in the garden courtyard or having a drink on the rooftop terrace. The small lobby has helpful information, umbrellas, and staff on hand to book tours or rent the hotel's green transportation. Renovations made after our visit brought a contemporary, stylish look to this space. Hallways and stairwells leading to rooms have electric hues like hot pink and pear green with intertwining mural designs.

Berlin Tegel Airport is about a 25-minute drive northwest, while Berlin Schönefeld Airport is about 35 minutes south via public transport.

The individually designed rooms vary in layout and furnishings, but all have dark wood floors grounding bright color schemes. Wild patterns run across walls, pillows, and bedspreads with quirky art and furniture filling the room. A desk and chair is standard along with free Wi-Fi and a flat-screen TV, but there's no mini-fridge. That, along with no air-conditioning, poses a problem during the summer, with loud fans and windows that open to noisy streets the only recourse against the heat. The modern bathrooms have glass walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads, but guests must pick up toiletries from the front desk.
