Bottom Line

With 133 rooms, the ONE80
Hostel Berlin is a large youth hostel with an excellent location in Alexanderplatz near bars and restaurants. This location is also a transportation hub, making for an easy commute
to most of the city. There is a modern, sleek bar and restaurant on-site serving
drinks and snacks 24/7 and a club in the basement sometimes open for events. The
hostel is popular with solo travelers as well as groups of travelers and backpackers. Rooms are clean with en-suite bathrooms and
two to eight beds, but showers tend to leak on the bathroom floors. Guests may want to compare rates with Generator Berlin Mitte, a chain hostel with an artsy-industrial vibe. Wi-Fi is free throughout.

Scene

Youth hostel with trendy decor and inviting spaces to mingle

With 11 stories of rooms, the ONE80 Hostel Berlin has plenty of space to accommodate travelers. Guests can mingle in the trendy lobby with clear plastic chairs,
gray couches, and a long bar with metal barstools, or in the restaurant/bar that
has an industrial vibe with exposed pipes and block walls. A list of rules is
posted behind the bar including "Always toast before doing a shot." The wings
of the hotel form a large outdoor courtyard, and picnic tables provide a spot
to gather. There’s a pub crawl that runs every night from the hotel, and a dark
club in the basement hosts events with music and dancing. Guests tend to respect the
quiet time rules, and the hostel isn’t too noisy in the hallways at night. Overall this is a stylish pick for the price point and a good option for solo travelers looking for a social atmosphere.

Location

Convenient, central location near transportation hub

ONE80 Hostel Berlin has an
excellent location in Alexanderplatz, a public square that's rich in history,
offers upscale shopping, and is a transportation hub. There are plenty of
restaurants and bars within walking distance, and it’s a 20-minute walk to Hackesche
Höfe, an area popular for its nightclubs. It’s around a 10-minute walk to the TV
tower, and Museum Island is less than a 20-minute walk. Berlin Tegel Airport
can be reached by car in 25 minutes or in 45 minutes via public transportation.

Rooms

Modern shared rooms with bunk beds and en-suite bathrooms

The hotel has clean, modern
rooms with pop art details, red accent walls, and sleek hard floors. Shared rooms have metal
bunk beds and a little colorful seating area with a table. All guests have
access to one large and one small locker, two power sockets, and one reading
lamp. En-suite bathrooms have stand-up showers that are prone to leaking on the
bathroom floors. Hairdryers are available with a deposit, and toiletries are
offered for a fee. Single sex rooms are available, and all rooms have free
Wi-Fi, but some guests complain of spotty reception.

Features

Bar and restaurant serving drinks and snacks 24/7, outdoor courtyard, and basement club

The hotel has a sleek bar and restaurant
where breakfast is served for a fee and drinks and snacks are sold 24 hours a
day. There's a club in the basement sometimes open for events. The
hotel has an Internet corner in the lobby with two computers. Bicycle rentals are available, and
luggage lockers are available before and after check in/out. There's a big
laundry room with laundry amenities for a fee. A free digital photo booth uploads
guests’ randy photos to Facebook, and the hostel has a trade for stay program
where artists can receive board in exchange for their services as a band,
singer, DJ, or graffiti artist. Wi-Fi is free throughout but can be spotty.
