Bottom Line

There aren’t a lot of
amenities at Mondrian Suites Hotel Berlin Checkpoint Charlie, but this mid-range
hotel earns good reviews for having a convenient location in Mitte and its 135 clean, sleek, apartment-like rooms. All rooms have kitchenettes, dining tables, and couches as
well as either a furnished balcony or a terrace. There’s no full restaurant on-site, but
breakfast is available for a fee and there’s a grocery store nearby. Guests looking for hotels in the area should compare rates with Hotel Gat Pointe Charlie, a modern mid-range hotel with vibrant, green bathrooms. There is a small fee for Wi-Fi.

Scene

Modern hotel with friendly reception

Mondrian Suites is a gray, brick building with metal balconies located
in a quiet location on a side street where some guests have seen wild rabbits nearby. Inside, the
lobby is modern with eclectic, chic furnishings including a black, tufted leather couch, a vintage blue trunk serving as a coffee table, and a spotlight floor lamp. The wooden floors are pretty, and the black front desk is sleek in design. Guests appreciate the friendly
reception staff. Two elevators are available, but guests -- a mix of families,
couples, and business travelers -- complain of lengthy waits at times. Overall the vibe is polished yet unfussy.

Location

Central location in Mitte close to tourist attractions and restaurants

Mondrian Suites is in a
quiet location near the center of Berlin. It’s a short walk to Checkpoint
Charlie (a former Berlin Wall crossing point between East and West Berlin during
the Cold War) and the Jewish Museum. There's a grocery store nearby, and a
variety of restaurants and bars within walking distance. The U-Bahn is less than three
blocks away, and Berlin Wall Memorial is within a 15-minute subway ride. Tegel
Airport can be reached in under 40 minutes on public transportation.

Rooms

Modern, apartment-style rooms with kitchenettes and dining tables

The spacious rooms at the Mondrian Suites are modern with sleek wood floors, white walls, and minimal decor except for striking large photos
of zebras. Windowed doors open to balconies or terraces with trendy chairs. All
rooms have small dining tables, fabric couches, and wall-mounted flat-screen
TVs. Wi-Fi is available for a small fee. Kitchenettes in Comfort Studios are
equipped with microwaves, mini-fridges, and coffee/tea facilities, while Premium Studios (and both Comfort and Premium Apartments) have stovetops too. All rooms are stocked with cookware and dinnerware.
Bathrooms are spacious with large mirrors, towel warmers, and pump-dispensers
of soap and shampoo. The stand-up showers earn good reviews for hot water.

Features

Wi-Fi for a small fee, breakfast for a fee, and bicycle rental available

The hotel charges a fee for breakfast,
but it receives good reviews for variety. Wi-Fi is available for a nominal fee,
but some guests find it to be spotty. Laundry services are available, and pets
are welcome for a fee. The hotel offers bicycles to rent for exploring the
neighborhood, and a limited number of parking spaces are available for a fee. There is no full-service restaurant on-site.
