The 246-room, upscale Leonardo
Royal Hotel Berlin Alexanderplatz is a good value in a convenient location near
the Alexanderplatz transportation hub and many attractions. It offers a posh lobby with restaurant and bar and a host of luxurious amenities including 24-hour
room service and concierge. Rooms are tastefully decorated with modern amenities, but
some are quite small, and bathroom configurations in certain rooms may present privacy
issues. Some other area hotels like the Holiday Inn Berlin Centre Alexanderplatz
are comparatively priced with similar amenities while being a bit closer to
Alexanderplatz.
Scene
Posh, contemporary property with Art-Deco details
A
tan stucco exterior distinguishes the building of the Leonardo Royal. Inside, brown tile floors, black marble
wainscoting, and soaring, two-story cream-colored walls adorn the Art Deco-style lobby. Two columns emit soft pink neon light framing the entrance by the formal front desk.
Large, colorful art prints of bright red, blue, and yellow grace the walls.
Throughout the hotel are cushy sitting areas with comfortable couches and chairs in soft lavender and tan. In the modern lobby bar, soft white lighting frames the white barstools while pink neon zips around the ceiling. The restaurant is quite large and spread out
with formal, white tablecloth dining. Like the bar, it's bathed
in a soft neon light of pink and orange. Also on-site is a small but delightful outdoor terrace/courtyard with several tables, chairs, and umbrellas by small manicured lawns. Overall, the Leonardo Royal provides a warm,
colorful setting that's elegant without being stuffy.
Location
Near transportation hubs in the heart of the city
The Leonardo Royal Hotel Berlin
Alexanderplatz is located in what was once East Berlin in the heart of the
city. The bustling Alexanderplatz hub that connects the
city’s major public transportation trains, trams, and buses is two train stops
away or an easy 10-minute walk. From Alexanderplatz, train service to the Berlin
airports is approximately 30 minutes. A tram stop is only a one-minute walk
from the hotel lobby, and a bus stop is about two minutes. A wide variety of
restaurants are within five minutes’ walk, and the Alexa shopping center is a
10-minute walk. The entrance to Volkspark Friedrichshain, one of Berlin’s
largest and oldest parks with lovely ponds, fountains, and walking paths, is
adjacent to the hotel, less than a two-minute walk away. On-site parking is available
in an underground garage.
Rooms
Modern, nicely decorated small rooms with tiny bathrooms
Room sizes vary but have the same contemporary decor throughout, with
wood headboards inset with a colorful detail of Leonardo da Vinci’s "Vitruvian Man." An accent wall of green or red sets off the headboard and the other cream-colored walls. Brown patterned carpet, large wood-framed
mirrors, and photos of Berlin landmarks add elegance. An empty mini-fridge, electric kettle, electronic safe, and wall-mounted,
32-inch flat-screen TV are standard, as are large windows that open offering attractive street views. Classic Rooms are quite small with the bed dominating the room, and Deluxe Rooms offer more space, with an added brown leather couch, glass coffee table, and ottoman, plus a flat-screen TV that swivels. Bathrooms are equally small in all rooms, with brown and tan tile and stainless steel fixtures. Classic Rooms have only a small shower stall. Deluxe Rooms
have a shower/tub combo; and though there's a door between the toilet and the rest of the bathroom, there's no door between the bathroom and bedroom, which some guests
find unattractive. Suites are larger, but their bathrooms remain small. All rooms have free basic Wi-Fi, but some
guests complain it's slow. A higher-speed Internet service is available for a
surcharge.
