The Ibis Berlin Kurfuerstendamm is a comfortable and tidy two-pearl property in the western part of the city, a one-minute walk to a U-Bahn station. Its 180 rooms are adequately sized and have city views and reportedly comfortable mattresses, but they lack tea- and coffee-making facilities. Travelers who want to save even more money can check out the adjoining Ibis Budget Hotel.
Scene
Stylish budget hotel popular with international tourists
Located on an attractive, tree-lined square, the white-masonry hotel opened in 2014. Popular with budget travelers from around the world, the Ibis Berlin is a clean, stylish place to sleep, with more upscale interiors than a typical value hotel. The lobby features floor-to-ceiling glass with views to the plaza. A red sofa and molded-plastic chairs in cream, red, and pale blue sit next to low tables on a contemporary gray-patterned rug. Decor accents include a wall-spanning photo mural of chess pieces. Sitting under black pendant lights, the reception desk is made of wood and concrete. The adjacent restaurant and bar has rustic tubular paneling and the same style chairs as found in the lobby, with red banquettes at wooden tables. The concrete bar has niches for a TV and liquor bottles. Hallways are beige and brightly lit, with patterned carpets. Note that the hotel is wheelchair accessible.
Location
In West Berlin, near shopping, restaurants, and a metro station
The Ibis Berlin Kurfuerstendamm is in an area with lots of shopping, restaurants, and public transportation, making it a convenient spot for tourists. The Wittenbergplatz U-Bahn Station is a one-minute walk from the hotel, and there's a 24-hour Kaiser Market next door. The KaDeWe Mall, a popular shopping venue, is three minutes on foot, while the Berlin Zoo is 12 minutes on foot. Checkpoint Charlie is 12 minutes by car and 18 minutes by train, while Berlin's culturally dense Museum Island is a 14-minute drive or 25-minute train ride. The Brandenburg Gate is a nine-minute drive or 20-minute train ride. The Berlin Wall Memorial is a 16-minute drive or 28-minute train ride. It's a 13-minute drive or 18-minute train ride to the Sir Norman Foster-designed Reichstag building. The Schonefeld Airport is 24 minutes away by car or just under an hour away by train.
Rooms
Tidy, comfortable, and efficient rooms, some with balconies
Guest rooms at this Ibis are adequate in size, clean, and comfortable, with IKEA-like flair including wood floors, red molded-plastic desk chairs, and sconce bedside lighting. There are small, square windows with black-out drapes and limited city views; higher-category rooms have balconies and great views. Guests rave about the comfort of the Ibis "Sweet Bed" mattress and the plush pillows. The tiny side tables have thoughtfully placed electrical outlets. Furniture is dominated by blond wood, used in headboards, desks, and closets. Amenities include air-conditioning and flat-screen TVs, but no tea- and coffee-making facilities. Bathrooms are tiled in white with gray floors and have curved counters in synthetic materials, modern fittings, and walk-in showers with wall-mounted toiletry dispensers.
