The upper-middle-range boutique i31
Hotel is a great option for the hip, design-conscious traveler looking to stay
close to central Berlin and near public transportation. Its location is very
close to the Berlin Wall Trail, with
plenty of places to dine and drink within walking distance. There’s a breakfast
buffet and a trendy lobby bar, plus a 24-hour fitness center, a sauna, and a
lovely garden for relaxing. But some additional fees apply for breakfast, parking, and sauna use. The 117 rooms are as chic and trendy as the rest of
the hotel, and they're outfitted with built-in media hubs, minibars with free soft drinks, and little treats like German chocolates. As an alternative, travelers could check out the similarly trendy Hotel Gat Point Charlie, which is even closer to major tourist attractions.
Scene
Stylish hotel with a fun vibe attracting vacationing couples
The overall vibe of i31 Hotel is stylish
and playful. Tree silhouettes on the walls; funky, colorful
armchairs on chic wooden floors; ceilings with exposed ductwork; and a front desk
that doubles as a chic white lobby bar greets guests upon arrival. Large heavy
drapes separate the lobby from the breakfast room, which has a rustic-modern
vibe with antique wooden chairs, clustered silver industrial hanging lights,
and wall-to-wall windows that look out onto the lush green garden. The look continues through the hallways with an urban gray-and-red color scheme. Couples make up the majority of the clientele here, drawn by the sleek design and excellent location.
Location
Within walking distance to the Berlin Wall Trail and public transportation
The i31 Hotel is located on the northwest side of central
Berlin, making it well within walking distance to some major attractions. The former
Invalidenstrasse border crossing of the historic Berlin Wall is a four-minute
walk away. This is also a stop on the Berlin Wall walking trail. And the Natural History Museum is also a four-minute walk away. The hotel is surrounded by dining options and
public transportation. A metro station is a minutes’ walk away; a bus/tram
stop is two minutes away on foot; and the Berlin Nordbahnhof metro station is a
four-minute walk. Checkpoint Charlie can be reached in 22 minutes by public transportation or a 10-minute drive. Berlin Tegel Airport takes 16 minutes by car or 30 minutes by public transportation.
Rooms
Chic rooms with flat-screen TVs, minibars with free soft drinks, and sleek bathrooms
I31 Hotel’s cool and chic design
continues into the guest rooms, which have white linens, dark wood floors topped with carpet, funky headboards with built-in reading lights, and
either neon green chairs or velour rose-colored couches. All rooms have free
Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, minibars with free soft drinks, safes,
and coffee- and tea-making facilities. It’s the small things like German
chocolates, built-in media hubs in the desks, green apples, or issues of Vogue on the side table that make these rooms appealing. Bathrooms are fairly spacious with a sleek
design that includes glossy white counters and walk-in glass showers with
waterfall showerheads. Some rooms have illuminated vanity mirrors. Molton Brown
toiletries and magnifying mirrors are also included. Views from the rooms vary
among the street, the garden, or a cool, large white stone Buddha statue on top
the building next door.
Features
Breakfast, lobby bar, outdoor patio, small fitness center, and sauna -- but some fees apply
As an urban boutique property on the smaller side, the i31 Hotel manages to offer a fair amount of features, but some of those come with an added fee. Breakfast here comes in two options -- a
full breakfast buffet or a small French breakfast that includes two croissants,
juice, and coffee -- both for a fee. The full breakfast buffet is pricier but includes
fresh pastries and breads, juice, yogurt, fruit, fresh waffles, and vegan,
vegetarian, or lactose-free options. There’s no full restaurant serving other meals, but an on-site lobby bar provides cocktails, wine, beer, and small snacks. And a lovely outdoor patio and garden is open
for guests to enjoy their breakfast or a drink. The fitness center here is
modern, albeit small, with four cardio machines, a bench, and a set of free
weights. There’s also a dry sauna, though it costs a small fee to use. Guests
can make use of free Wi-Fi and a business center that has a single computer.
Underground parking on-site incurs a daily fee.
