Part of the Spanish hotel chain H10 that continues to expand through Europe, H10 Berlin Ku'damm opened in 2011, renovating an old historic property and adding another building to create a modern 199-room, upscale property. It's in a convenient location in western Berlin, within walking distance of restaurants and Kurfürstendamm avenue, known locally as Ku'damm, one of the city's main tourist and shopping streets. Still, the hotel sits on a busy crossroad that can give street-facing rooms some unwanted city noise. The standard Deluxe Double Rooms are on the small side, but the urban elegance of lofted suites in the older building are memorable. Though slightly less luxurious, the nearby NH Berlin Kurfürstendamm has larger standard rooms and cheaper rates.
Scene
Stark white and black interiors with lots of natural light and fine art photography
Formerly a school, the historic building that now houses part of the H10 Berlin Ku'damm retained its high ceilings and wide halls. Its stark white and black interiors are tempered by the large antique windows that fill the rooms with natural light. The bright, open lobby also has assorted items from the building's past. Make no mistake however that the property’s overall ambiance is modern and chic, with an array of fine art photography and graphics on display and sleek seating arrangements in earth tones.
Location
Near Kurfürstendamm avenue in western Berlin, among an array of attractions
Located right off of Kurfürstendamm avenue, the hotel is conveniently close to public transportation (U-Bahn U1 and U9). Bars, eateries, and shopping opportunities are nearby. Other attractions within walking distance are the Berlin Zoo, Käthe-Kollwitz-Museum, and Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. Berlin is Germany’s capital and largest city, best known for its lively nightlife (restaurants and bars stay open late), cafes, museums, palaces, street art, and numerous historic sights. Berlin Tegel Airport is a 15-minute drive north, and Berlin Schönefeld Airport is about 25 minutes southeast.
Rooms
Standard units on the smaller side, but bright and stylish
Guest rooms are separated between the older historic building and a more recent addition, but they all have the same stylish monochrome decor. Rooms on the back side with courtyard views are quieter than the street-facing units, especially on lower floors. Some of the standard Deluxe Double Rooms are on the small side but are nonetheless bright with blonde wood floors, interesting lighting from black pendant lamps, and ambient bedside panels. Top-to-bottom black and white photos overlay the glass doors to the bathrooms, where either elevated shower/tub combos or glass walk-in showers have rainfall showerheads. Some of the suites have kitchenettes, lofted bedrooms, and two-story windows. All spaces have desks and chairs, laptop safes, and mini-fridges.
Features
Stylish meeting space, full spa, restaurant, and lobby bar
Perhaps influenced by the building's previous life, each of the hotel's meeting rooms have almost a classroom aesthetic. The largest of the spaces can accommodate up to 100 people. For those seeking relaxation, the full-service spa has the usual treatment rooms, sauna, and steam room as well as an ice fountain and thoughtful touches like heated benches. German cuisine with a Spanish twist gets served in the on-site fusion restaurant Salt & Pepper, which has a welcome outdoor terrace and shaded seating. Inside the lobby, a bar serves cocktails and coffee, and there's a 24-hour business center along a back wall with printers and leather roller chairs. Bicycle rentals are available in the underground parking garage.
