Servigroup Calypso

The Calypso is one of the nicest Servigroup properties in Benidorm, of which there are nine. Although the hotel looks ordinary from the outside, its interiors have many fun touches, including exposed stone accent walls, couches and armchairs in bold colors, and squat wooden coffee tables in the lobby. There is a mix of old and new in some common spaces, such as in the cafe, which has vibrant green chairs and a bright pink glass chandelier in the middle of the classical room. The mirrored pillars in the restaurant are also a little old-fashioned, but the rest of the space has a cheerful style, with white and bright green chairs placed around pale lime tables with black placemats. Large windows and off-white floors, walls and ceilings make the space feel airy and fresh, though the drop-ceiling adds an office vibe.The hotel is mostly popular among older couples, which makes it quiet and relaxing. However, evening entertainment generally includes ballroom dancing, which may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Families are drawn to the hotel for its comfortable rooms, family and kids’ pools, location near the main strip and the beach, and competitive rates.

The hotel is located on the corner of two busy streets, both lined with other hotels and a wide array of nightlife and dining options. This part of Benidorm is known as the New Town, and is mostly popular with international visitors looking to party in the area’s many clubs and bars. There's a long, sandy beach just a six-minute walk from the hotel, and the town’s main stretch of sand can be reached on foot in about 25 minutes, or by car in just under 15. Old Town, which has a more local feel, is a 20-minute walk away. There are a couple of family-friendly attractions within a short drive of the hotel, including the aquarium and Terra Mitica theme park, located five and 15 minutes from the hotel, respectively. Alicante Airport is a 45-minute drive away. 

Servigroup Calypso's guest rooms tend to run a little small, but all have large windows opening onto furnished balconies, which adds some visual space. Decor is simple and generic, with thin pastel green bedspreads, orange pops in accent pillows and chairs, and peach accent walls. Room categories include singles, doubles, triples and quadruples. Each room is sparsely furnished with one to four twin beds, a pale wooden desk, a little bentwood chair, and a small luggage rack. Standard amenities are a little above most other mid-range hotels in Benidorm, and include LCD TVs with over 60 local and international channels, free Wi-Fi, and mini-fridges. Safes are available for a fee, and central air-conditioning and heating are provided seasonally. Bathrooms are contemporary and cheerful, with fuchsia tiles and counters, large walk-in showers with glass screens, wall-mounted hairdryers, and a few toiletries.

Amenities here are in line with Servigroup's other properties and mid-range hotels in the area. The buffet restaurant generally gets good reviews among guests for its variety and quality. The breakfast spread, which is free and includes continental, English and gluten-free options, is particularly popular. The hotel also has two bars serving drinks throughout the day and into the night, and one of them has outdoor seating on a terrace that's covered in the winter. There is an additional bar by the pool, which offers drinks and snacks during the warmer months. The pool is smallish but pleasant for a quick dip or a few laps, and has dozens of loungers and a few umbrellas. There's a separate shallow pool for kids, and a playground in a shaded area just off the main sundeck. Every night, the hotel hosts a ballroom dance session particularly popular among older couples, as well as live shows. There is also indoor parking for a fee, and free Wi-Fi throughout.
