Bottom Line

The 120-room Hotel Magic Villa de Benidorm is an all-inclusive, mid-range property located a couple of blocks from Levante Beach. Rooms are homey with somewhat generic and dated decor, and outfitted with TVs (not all flat-screens), air-conditioning (for a deposit), and mini-fridges. Furniture shows some signs of wear and tear and there's a fee for Wi-Fi. Hotel highlights include two pools, two children’s pools, a buffet restaurant (but it gets mixed reviews), gym, and a number of kid-friendly amenities. The free shuttle from Alicante Airport (for those staying more than seven days) is a nice perk. Families might also want to check rates at Hotel Helios Benidorm, which has more up-to-date rooms and free Wi-Fi.

Scene

All-inclusive, mid-range resort that caters to families, also drawing groups of friends and young couples

Hotel Magic Villa de Benidorm is an all-inclusive resort with a fun, relaxed vibe. Offering several kid-friendly amenities, it draws its share of families, but its location -- just a few blocks from the beach and close to nightlife -- also brings in a young, sometimes noisy crowd of couples and friends. The hotel is housed in a nondescript, white boxy building, and the lobby, with its orange-hued wood paneled walls, mirrored columns, landscape paintings in gaudy gilt frames, and rattan seating with brown pleather cushions, is dated and could use a refresh. The on-site buffet restaurant features golden pillars and tables with white and red tablecloths. Its black chairs and booths don’t quite mesh with the vibrant colors. To keep with the festive spirit of holidays, the hotel seasonally decorates public areas, such as the salon where live entertainment is held during the week.

Location

Within walking distance of Levante Beach, restaurants, and nightlife

This hotel is located on a
lively street just a four-minute walk from the beach. There are several
restaurants, bars, and shops within a couple of blocks. However, public
transportation isn’t very close (the nearest bus stop is an 11-minute walk away). Aqualandia, a water park, and Mundomar, a marine animal park, are about a 25-minute walk away or an eight-minute drive. The Church of San Jaime and the Balcón del Mediterráneo are a 12-minute drive from the hotel. Terra Mitica, an amusement park, is a 15-minute drive from the hotel. It's a 45-minute drive to Alicante Airport.

Rooms

Homey rooms with TVs, air-conditioning, minibars, and kettles -- but some wear

The hotel’s rooms have simple wood furniture, parquet floors, and red or beige bedspreads. Though the units are bright and homey, they're dated and show some wear and tear -- some more than others. Arched doorways by the windows provide an elegant touch, and some rooms have lovely large beach prints on the walls. All units have small loveseats and TVs, though not all are flat-screen, and there’s a deposit for the remote control. The air-conditioning, too, requires a deposit. Wi-Fi is available for a fee, and all rooms have minibars, kettles, and safes. Pool View Superior Rooms have terraces with loungers, tables, and chairs. Most bathrooms (with shower/tub combos) are showing signs of wear, including chipped mirrors and signs of lime scale and mold. They have bidets and toiletries, but no hairdryers. Rooms can be booked with all-inclusive features that provide one to three meals and even access to local attractions.

Features

Pools and kids' pools, playground and game room, plus a gym, buffet restaurant, and bar

This hotel caters to families with plenty of kid-friendly amenities. There’s an outdoor pool with a water slide, as well as an indoor pool and a hot tub -- but no poolside bar. There are two children’s pools, one of which has slides. The kids’ club offers activities and entertainment, and the hotel also has a playground and a game room with pool, air hockey, and ping-pong. The gym is bright and full of light thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows, but it offers only a few machines, including exercise bikes and some strength-training equipment. The restaurant provides a buffet, while the bar serves drinks, though some guests complain about the food and drink quality here. The hotel has live entertainment in the evenings. Wi-Fi is available for a fee, as are public computers. There’s no parking available.
