Inadequate number of sun loungers, and some are broken
Located in Benidorm, a package-style tourist destination on Spain’s Costa Blanca, Benilux Park Hotel is a six-minute walk from Playa Poniente, one of the town’s two beaches. This three-pearl, budget-friendly hotel is a multi-storied complex with 216 rooms spread over two wings. Most of
the guest rooms here are clean and well-maintained, and there’s
an outdoor swimming pool, as well as a children’s pool, playground, and
daily kids’ activities. But the Benilux Park skimps on the extras: Basic room
amenities such as mini-fridges, safes, and hairdryers come with extra fees, and a small
deposit is required for air-conditioning. The daily morning scramble for scarce sun loungers is a source of frustration for some guests, although others find it amusing. For a slightly more upscale option, travelers might want to consider Hotel Magic Fenicia, although rates will be higher.
Scene
Mid-range hotel catering to vacationing families, retirees, and revelers
Once a tiny fishing village on Spain’s eastern
coast, Benidorm has become a budget holiday destination known for its rowdy
nightlife. This is a popular holiday resort for Spaniards and Northern Europeans,
and vacationing families make up most of the clientele during the summer months, while before and after the peak season it's retirees. Guests
also include young travelers attracted to the beaches and the
town’s nightlife, as well as groups attending bachelor and bachelorette parties. The
building's exterior is an unattractive multi-storied L-shape structure, with balconies facing the pool area. The public areas are devoid of decoration and generic but well-maintained. The lobby area is
spacious, with a large lounge area with palm-tree murals, faux-leather sofas
and armchairs, and a small library.
Location
In a quiet neighborhood within walking distance of the beach
Benilux Park Hotel is
located in a neighborhood of low-rise apartment buildings in the quieter part of
town, away from the noisier scene off Playa Levante. There are
many small shops, cafes, and restaurants within the immediate vicinity, and it's a six-minute walk to Poniente Beach and a 10-minute walk to the
old town. The municipal market and central shopping district are an
11-minute walk away, and it’s a 15-minute walk to Placa del Castell on the
seafront. The heart of the city’s
party scene is farther away -- on Avenida Communitat Valencia -- an eight-minute
drive from the hotel. Alicante Airport is a 50-minute drive away.
Rooms
Clean and well-maintained rooms, but basic amenities come with fees
The 216 guest rooms at Benilux Park
Hotel are clean and well-sized, although not overly spacious. The
Family Rooms can feel cramped, with the double bed and sofa bed taking up
most of the floor area. Decor is basic: white walls, off-white tile floors, and simple furniture, with black
and white patterned bedspreads and striped curtains the only decorative flourishes. Beige-tone tile bathrooms have marble sink tops, small shower stalls, and bidets. The Semi-Accessible Rooms have wide sliding doors opening onto balconies, and instead of self-contained bathrooms feature exterior sinks, separate
toilets, and shower rooms set off from the main room only by shower
curtains -- often causing the room to
flood as a result. All rooms have balconies overlooking the swimming pool, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, and
air-conditioning -- but guests must pay a small deposit to use it, which is
reimbursed at the end of the stay. Wi-Fi is unavailable in the rooms, and guests have complained about the limited number of electrical sockets. Though the guest rooms are
clean and maintained to a high standard, some on the top floor have yet to be
renovated. They have dated bathrooms, a musty smell, and broken sockets. Soundproofing between rooms could be better.
Features
On-site buffet restaurant, swimming pool, and activities for children
Benilux Park Hotel offers
package deals that include either breakfast, half- or full-board. The meals
get mixed reviews, and are served buffet-style in the huge dining room,
where live entertainment is on offer every evening. There's a large lounge bar
that also has outdoor seating next to the pool area. The outdoor pool is large and suitable for swimming laps. Kids have
their own pool, playground, and daily activities. The hotel also
offers currency exchange, luggage storage, and a laundry and ironing service.
There is a free Wi-Fi zone in the lobby lounge. On-site parking is available for an extra fee.
