Bottom Line

The Alpha Apartments don’t promise much, but it offers the basics for a self-catering stay a 10-minute walk from the beach in Benidorm. This two-pearl apartment block provides guests with a place to sleep, a pool to splash about in, a snack bar, and not much else. The 52 apartments are large and have furnished terraces, but they are dated, have occasional maintenance issues, and require coins for air-conditioning and heating by the hour. That said, they do have gas stoves, ovens, microwaves, and kettles. The apartments are close to nightlife and a supermarket for stocking up kitchens. Travelers looking for a self-catering option with more amenities might want to try the Beni Beach Apartments.

Scene

Decidedly budget self-catering option attracting mix of leisure travelers

Budget and dated decor is the overarching theme at the Alpha Apartments. The hotel’s low-ceilinged lobby has a few black pleather couches dotted around, along with red plastic tables and chairs, brochures, large posters advertising local attractions, and vending machines. A small snack bar has signs displaying specials, and a bar that’s lined with displays of liquor, chips, candy, and a slushy machine. The most well-kept space is an outdoor terra-cotta pool terrace that gets a lot of sun. Guests are an even mix of couples, families, and groups of friends on vacation.

Location

10-minute walk from the beach, and close to nightlife, bars, and restaurants

One of the best things about the Alpha Apartments is its location. The apartment block is a 10-minute walk from the golden sands of Platja de Llevant and the seafront promenade. The apartments are a 20-minute walk from Parroquia de Sant Jaume i Santa Anna and the Placa de Sant Jaume, a pretty square in the center of Benidorm’s old town, right next to the Mirador, a historic viewpoint once used to defend Benidorm. Closer to home, the Alpha Apartments are near to plenty of nightlife spots, bars, and restaurants, plus a supermarket for stocking up kitchens. Expect a 45-minute transfer time to Alicante Airport.

Rooms

Dated, basic apartments with well-equipped kitchens

The 52 apartments at the Alpha Apartments are dated and basic, though that's par for the course in Benidorm. Expect white quartz floors, white walls with tiny works of generic art, simple wood furniture, and linens in old-fashioned blue-and-yellow patterns. All apartments have one bedroom with two single beds that can be pushed together to form a double, and either a couch or sofa bed in the living room, plus a flat-screen TV. Kitchens are separated from living rooms by a breakfast bar with two chairs. Kitchens are fairly well-equipped, with a four-burner gas stove, oven -- a rarity in Spanish apartments -- fridge, kettle, microwave, and the usual cookware. On the downside, some guests report issues like poorly maintained furnishings. Bathrooms have a shower/tub combo and towels. All apartments have a large, furnished terrace. Note that in order to use the air-conditioning or heating, guests have to pay by the hour, using a coin slot. Guests are also charged for Wi-Fi.

Features

A small lap pool and kids’ pool, plus a  snack bar

The Alpha Apartments offers guests little in the way of creature comforts, but the bare necessities are covered. Certainly the crowning feature is an outdoor pool terrace with a small lap pool and a section for kids' to splash about in. Plastic loungers and dining sets under umbrellas line the terrace. Next to the pool is an indoor snack bar that serves drinks, snacks, and light meals, as well as a slushies and ice cream. No parking is offered, though those with a car can typically find street parking.
