Bright apartments with large balconies -- some with sea views
Hotel of UK TV series "Benidorm" fame is next door
Large outdoor pool with kids' pool attached
Tennis courts for a fee
Tired and dated decor throughout the hotel
Almost no extra features on-site
Lots of fees for extras like sun loungers, fans, TVs, safes, and Wi-Fi
Hefty deposit charged per room upon check-in
Studios lack real beds -- only include sofabeds
No air-conditioning
Party-oriented clientele means lots of nighttime noise
Young groups flock to the Acuarium II Apartments mainly for its location -- just a 10-minute walk to Levante Beach and nightlife on the main strip. Rates at this budget property are low and facilities are few. There's no bar, like some of its competitors, but a good-sized pool is surrounded by rentable loungers. This hotel is aimed at a young crowd and it's accordingly noisy -- the 100 apartments sleep up to four, and each has a basic kitchenette and a large balcony. Fees are charged for everything from Wi-Fi to sun loungers, and the style is undeniably tired and dated. Guests looking for an apartment hotel with more features could check out Apartamentos Primavera Loix, which has a nicer pool area that includes a kids' pool and waterfall.
Scene
No-frills apartment-style crash pad that's popular with a young crowd
Acuarium II Apartments is a towering block of flats that sits beside other similar blocks in the heart of Benidorm's touristy center. Interiors are a big let down, with lots of dated and tired decor. However, most guests do little hanging out at the hotel, as features are slim -- at best. The apartments are self-contained so there's little in the way of communal space, though the large pool area is a definite plus. Fans of the UK show "Benidorm" will be recognize the hotel next door from the TV show, and filming is ongoing as of 2017. The Acuarium II is a no-frills place aimed at a young crowd, especially groups on bachelor and bachelorette getaways, so it can get noisy at night.
Location
A 10-minute walk from Levante Beach and 15 minutes from the main strip
Acuarium II Apartments have a great central location, just three blocks from Levante Beach. There are shops and eateries along the road. It's a couple of minutes on foot to Avenida Ametlla de Mar, which is lined with restaurants and shops down to the sea front. The main Benidorm strip -- also known as The Square -- is about 15 minutes away on foot. Expect a five-minute drive to Aqualandia water park, and 15 to both Terra Mitica and Terra Natura theme parks. The colorfully-lit caverns at Canelobre Caves are a 45-minute drive from the apartments. It's about the same distance to Alicante Airport by car. Regular airport buses run from Avenida Europa -- a five-minute cab ride from the hotel -- with a journey time of around an hour.
Rooms
Functional apartments with large balconies and basic kitchenettes, but style is tired and dated
Apartments are either Studios or One-Bedroom units. The former lack proper beds, and only offer sofabeds, while the latter sleep up to four between two twin beds and a sofabed. They're functional and bright, with basic pine furniture, tiled floors, and little in the way of decor. You'll see lots of old-school fabrics and wear that all contributes to the budget ethos of the property. The kitchenettes have stovetops, microwaves, electric kettles, fridges, and sinks. Each apartment has a small dining area, and a large furnished balcony. Some of the higher floors have sea views. There's no air-conditioning, but fans can be rented. Extras such as TVs, Wi-Fi, and safes are also available for a fee. Bathrooms follow the basic decor of the rooms, with tiled floors and shower cubicles. It's worth noting that guests are required to pay a fairly large damage deposit on arrival, per apartment. Keep in mind that the party-minded guests here mean noise is an issue.
Features
Large outdoor pool -- but fees for loungers, tennis courts, and Wi-Fi
Acuarium II Apartments has few features, though there is a large outdoor pool with a kids' pool attached. Umbrellas and some sun-loungers are available -- though these require a rental fee. There's a good amount of space around the pool, and many guests post up on towels. Tennis courts can be used for a fee. Other services are few. Wi-Fi is available for a daily fee and there's a small mini-market next door that stocks essentials.
