Bottom Line

DoubleTree by Hilton Bend is a mid-range chain hotel that attracts lots of business travelers as well as a fair number of tourists. The 117 rooms and suites here are bright and spacious, if generic and simply decorated. Some add balconies or whirlpool hot tubs. Features include a tiny fitness center, a small indoor pool, and a restaurant with room service, but its the hotel's central location in downtown Bend that sets it apart. Travelers may also want to consider the Hampton Inn & Suites Bend, which is a bit further from town but has a lovely location right on the Deschutes River.

Scene

Mid-range business hotel with casual atmosphere and free cookies

DoubleTree by Hilton Bend is a mid-range chain hotel that attracts business travelers as well as some tourists in search of easy access to the sites and dining options in downtown Bend. The hotel is nothing special from the outside -- just a modern cement building in shades of terra-cotta and ochre. Inside, the lobby features stone tile floors and a large seating area with plush leather sofas and chairs. Guests are greeted at the long wooden front desk with a fresh chocolate chip cookie, a standard feature at DoubleTrees far and wide.

Location

Right on the edge of historic downtown Bend, an easy walk to shops, restaurants, and breweries

The hotel is conveniently located on the edge of quaint downtown Bend, in an area with lots of little boutiques and restaurants and about a five-minute walk from the celebrated Deschutes Brewery Bend Public House. Sunriver Resort -- which offers bike trails, horseback riding, and a small shopping center -- is a 25-minute drive away, while Mount Bachelor takes a half-hour to reach by car. It takes around 40 minutes to reach Smith Rock State Park, an iconic high-desert wilderness area known for its gigantic namesake rock formation and excellent rock climbing. The Redmond Municipal Airport takes just under a half-hour to reach by car. Portland and PDX Airport are just over three hours away.

Rooms

Simply furnished rooms and suites, some with perks such as whirlpool tubs or balconies with downtown views

This hotel offers a variety of rooms and suites, some of which are wheelchair accessible. Decor is standard and consistent across room types, with light-wood headboards and furniture and generic brownish-gray patterned carpets. All rooms come with either one king or two queen beds, and a few of the rooms with king beds have whirlpool hot tubs. Suite options include Junior Suites, King Suites with king beds and separate living rooms, and big Family Suites with two queen beds and a king bed. All units are air-conditioned and come with flat-screen TVs (minimum 39-inch). coffee- and tea-making facilities, microwaves, and mini-fridges. Some units have sofa beds. Units with balconies and views of the quaint city center are also available. Bathrooms are simple, with shower/tub combos. Hairdryers and simple toiletries are provided. Guests can request additional toiletries like toothbrushes, deodorant, and shaving cream from the front desk.

Features

Business center, small indoor pool with hot tub, small fitness center, and bistro with drinks, meals, and room service

Features at the DoubleTree are pretty typical and include a business center with desktop computers and a printer, coin-operated laundry facilities, free hotel-wide Wi-Fi, free on-site parking, and a small fitness center with a couple of cardio machines and some weights. There's also an indoor pool, though it is a bit small for swimming decent laps, and a small whirlpool hot tub.  This hotel doesn't offer much in terms of dining, though they do have a bar/lounge, Press NW Bistro, which serves drinks and meals from breakfast into the evening. Room service is also available.
