The THB Torrequebrada Hotel is a large three-pearl property right on a seafront promenade and less than a five-minute walk from the beach. All 350 rooms have private balconies facing the sea, though the style is an oddly dated blend of country and IKEA-esque styles. This isn't the right pick for those wanting to be near the buzz of Benalmadena's marina, but there's a lot to do on-site, including the attached Torrequebrada Casino. There's also an indoor pool and two outdoor pools on a sundeck overlooking the sea, plus a small spa and a sauna. Optional all-inclusive rates and crowds mean frequent lines for food and drinks. Check out the nearby Sunset Beach Club for cheaper rates and similar amenities.
Scene
Large casino hotel with all-inclusive rates and crowds, right on the sea
Spread out between two towers linked by a central reception floor, the THB Torrequebrada Hotel covers a lot of ground (which can mean a lot of walking for some guests). Inside, the entryway is impressive, if impractical. A high ceiling with minimalist ring chandeliers reflect off the polished marble floors, and there's a fountain in the center surrounded by glass walls -- it's unclear what purpose these walls serve, and there are some sculpted metal chairs just off to the side. It's a confusing mishmash of decor that, unfortunately, sums up the character of this hotel. The large space serves no function other than to ferry guests elsewhere -- and there are plenty of elsewheres throughout the property, including a popular casino. Keep in mind that the hotel can be crowded, especially in high season. Outside, the view is excellent, with a sunbathing lawn and a pool area overlooking the sea. Guests tend to be an international group of couples, families, and casino visitors.
Location
On the seafront, in Benalmadena's quieter Torrequebrada area
The hotel rises off a section of seafront promenade above a rocky shoreline in the Torrequebrada area of Benalmadena. It's a quieter part of this region, and lacks the bustle of Benalmadena's marina. There's a sandy beach within a two-minute walk and a few underwhelming dining options nearby, mostly limited to fast food. The popular Torrequebrada Golf Club is within a 10-minute drive from the resort, as are downtown Benalmadena, the marina, and Parque de la Paloma. Tivoli World and Sea Life Benalmadena, -- both popular with families -- are an eight-minute drive from the hotel, while more mature guests can experience traditional Spanish life in the historic old town of Pueblo de Benalmadena, about 11 minutes away by car. The Malaga Airport -- the closest major option to the hotel -- is a 20-minute drive from the hotel.
Rooms
Simple, slightly dated rooms with private balconies and sea views
All of the hotel's 350 rooms have sea views from their furnished balconies, which is a nice extra, particularly since the rooms themselves don't offer much in the way of style. Decor includes light-wood floors and while there are variations depending on which of the two towers they are in, it's generally a homey look that blends IKEA-style furniture with older details like wicker lamps and dated country-style fabrics. Standard and larger Superior Rooms have two double beds each and small built-in desks. Suites have queen beds and living areas with couches and dining tables; upgraded suites have larger balconies and add pod-style coffeemakers. However, past guests have complained of insufficient electrical plugs and lingering smoke smells from past guests. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and minibars. Bathrooms have old quartz vanities and tan tiling plus bidets and shower/tub combos.
Features
Indoor and outdoor pools, casino, buffet restaurant, bar with live shows, tennis court, and spa
There are a number of features at the hotel, though it's worth noting that some can be overrun when things are fully booked. The hotel's two round outdoor pools are separated by a small waterfall feature, but both share the same sun deck with views out over the sea. A sunbathing lawn stretches out on either side and has lounge chairs and thatched umbrellas. There's also a heated indoor pool with water jets in a bright room with floor-to-ceiling windows and an atrium ceiling. Other features include hair salon and a small spa with a sauna, plus a tiny fitness room with only a couple cardio machines and a weight trainer. Fitness buffs will have better luck outdoors where there's a tennis court and a seafront promenade conducive for long walks or jogging. For kids, there's an outdoor playground with swings and a slide on a wide green lawn. All-inclusive rates are available, but note that there are occasional lines at the buffet restaurant and the poolside bar. Sala Fortuna hosts regular live entertainment, especially flamenco dancers, and guests have free entry to the attached Torrequebrada Casino with table games including roulette and poker. There's also a business center with multiple workstations, three meeting rooms, and a banquet hall that can accommodate up to 422 people. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
