Hotel Silvio
Via Paolo Carcano 10/12

Family-owned since 1919, Hotel Silvio is a quaint, three-pearl property set in the hillside overlooking the famously picturesque Lake Como. Its scenic, leafy surroundings add to the overall romantic vibe, with the small but buzzy town of Bellagio a short drive away. Each of the 21 guest rooms and suites has some kind of lake view, mostly gorgeous and many panoramic from small balconies. All rooms come with flat-screen TVs, kettles, laptop-size safes, and free Wi-Fi. With very limited facilities, after the views its all about the food, with outstanding local cooking using lake-fished ingredients. Those favoring a pool over on-site dining will prefer the Borgo Le Terrazze, which also features stunning lake views and a more contemporary feel.

Hotel Il Perlo Panorama
Via Valassina 180

The 17-room Hotel Il Perlo Panorama is known as the "Bike Hotel” for the extensive biking and cycling services that it offers. This includes bike rental, repair, washing, trail and road maps, free bike storage, and more. Its location outside the city of Bellagio makes it easy for guests to take off on different bike paths, and also provides a romantic setting in the mountains. The terrace on the green gardens and the on-site restaurant and bar provides panoramic views of Lake Como. Some rooms also have the option of lake views and a balcony or terrace. Though the rooms in this two-pearl property are dated, have an odd mix of decor, don't all come with air-conditioning, they are spacious and homey with flat-screen TVs. One alternative (without all of the cycling amenities) is Hotel La Pergola, with a lakefront location outside of Bellagio near water sports companies. Both Wi-Fi and parking are free.

Hotel Belvedere Bellagio
Via Valassina 31

Hotel Belvedere is a three-pearl property with stunning views of Lake Como from Bellagio’s peaceful hilltop outskirts. Family-owned since 1880, the hotel has heaps of Italian charm and packs in extensive facilities like a heated outdoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, Turkish bath, gym, and spa. The 62 air-conditioned rooms feature a mix of classic and modern decor; most have lake-view balconies. The buffet breakfast is free and the pleasant restaurant serves seasonal local meals. Pets are allowed, and Italian lap dogs are likely encouraged. Note that the hotel closes out of season and is pricier than many other three-pearl options in Bellagio. Expect an uphill walk back to the hotel from town. The three-and-a-half-pearl Borgo Le Terrazze has significantly lower rates but lacks a gym or spa.

Hotel Metropole Bellagio
Piazza Giuseppe Mazzini 1

The 42-room Hotel Metropole Bellagio is a mid-range hotel with a lakefront location on Lake Como. The hotel has stunning views of the lake and mountains from the rooms, on-site restaurant, and rooftop sun terrace complete with lounge chairs. It also boasts the title of the oldest hotel in Bellagio and has an elegant and romantic style with modern conveniences such as flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, and safes. Other amenities -- such as a snack bar, ice cream parlor, and a concierge desk that sets up excursions -- demonstrate that there is more to this hotel than its three-pearl rating may suggest. Some guests have complained about outside noises from the ferry, boat docks, and nearby bars, and the rooms, while cozy, are a touch dated with patterned bedspreads. One local alternative is the Hotel Bellagio which has similar amenities (plus a few more) and might provide fewer noise problems for guests. Both breakfast and Wi-Fi here are free.

Il Sogno Bellagio
Salita Genazzini 4

Not a hotel or apartment complex, the three-pearl Il Sogno Bellagio is a collection of privately owned apartments scattered in and around the lakeside town of Bellagio. Everything from studios to large three-bedrooms are available, with decor varying from contemporary to rustic. All units have fully equipped kitchens, dining areas, and living rooms with flat-screen TVs. Wi-Fi is free, but there are no amenities beyond accommodations. Most apartments feature at least some kind of lake view, though guests receiving units without are often disappointed and some even feel mislead. Ultimately getting one of the better apartments can be down to chance, but these can make for a wonderful stay. Those who'd rather take the guesswork out might prefer the Borgo Le Terrazze, which guarantees a lake view from every room.

Hotel Borgo Le Terrazze
Via Panoramica 3, Vergonese

Borgo Le Terrazze is a 22-room boutique located in the small village of Bellagio on picturesque Lake Como. The views from every room are the most raved about feature of this property -- and the prime reason why guests choose this particular hotel for a romantic getaway or a family vacation. The pretty (albeit small) pool is another highlight. A free shuttle to and from the town center and waterfront restaurants is available. However, breakfast isn’t included in the price of the room, which is standard at various small hotels in the area.

Hotel Bellagio
Salita Leone Carlo Grandi 6

Guests get a lot of bang for their euro at the beautiful Hotel Bellagio on Lake Como, a three-pearl property in the heart of Bellagio Village. Rates are competitive for the location, though keep in mind that the outdoor swimming pool, restaurant, and sport club are a 20-minute walk from the property. However, there's a free daily continental breakfast and a small fitness center at the hotel. Rooms are well-lit but bland with sparse furnishings: Views of Lake Como are the real highlight, so it may be worth it to pay more for a room with a balcony facing the lake.
