The Carroll House Bed and Breakfast occupies an old 1890s home in the middle of a quiet residential neighborhood. It's a single-story property with quaint front and back porches, along with a small backyard, but there's little else here in the way of communal amenities. The three bedrooms in the main house are decorated with antique furnishings, and there's a small private cottage with a full kitchen. A full hot breakfast is included, along with coffee and cookies throughout the day.
Scene
Quaint bed-and-breakfast in an 1890 house with a screened-in porch
A brick walkway passes through the center of the Carroll House Bed and Breakfast's front yard, up to a front porch bedecked with potted ferns and pink rocking chairs -- matching the porch swing and front door. Inside, the decor throughout the 1890 home is a mix of southern vintage and contemporary, with antique furnishings scattered about. The old wooden armoires and tables in the living room lounge have a scent of their own, mingling with the smell of coffee from the formal dining room. In the back, the screened-in porch has a mix of vintage metal chairs and wicker patio furniture, for couples to relax in the shade.
Location
In the heart of town, near dining, shopping, and the beach
Carroll House Bed and Breakfast is in a residential neighborhood within the quaint beach town of Bay St. Louis. The block of Carroll Avenue that it sits on is quiet one, walking distance to the old town's antique shops, art galleries, and coffee shops. It's a seven-minute walk to the beach, and less than a five-minute drive from US 90, making it easy to access other destinations along the Gulf. Biloxi, with its multiple all-night casino hotels, is about a 50-minute drive to the east, while New Orleans is a just over an hour away to the southwest.
Rooms
Rooms with vintage and antique furnishings, along with a private cottage
The three bedrooms in the main house are individually decorated with a mix of traditional and antique furnishings. Each has hardwood floors and private bathrooms with antique clawfoot bathtubs. The color palettes vary widely however, with the Sunset Room done in subdued earth tones with pastel walls. A love seat sits in front of its bay windows, draped with striped curtains. The Sunshine Room has lavender walls and a decorative square window above its lacy bed, while the Master Suite has an orange and cream color scheme with a king-sized sleigh bed. Guests staying in this room with privacy concerns should note the curtained glass doors that open directly to the back porch. This room also adds a mini-fridge in addition to the standard coffeemaker, but has an older tube TV instead of a flat-screen. There's also a private cottage adjacent to the backyard with a full kitchen. It sleeps four (with a futon in a living room), and has its own patio, along with a washer and dryer.
