Scene

A comfortable oasis in a city setting

Guests can tell that there is pride involved in making Queensberry Hotel an enjoyable stay, with the property run by a husband-and-wife team. While the buildings are historic in nature, the Queensberry exudes a modern flair. The warm and cozy lobby includes several couches nestled around a fireplace, making it a pleasant common area in which to convene for a spot of tea or cup of coffee (free throughout most of the day). The lovely outdoor courtyard and gardens are another popular hangout with plenty of patio furniture and couches available for relaxation among interesting stonework. The overall vibe is comfortable and intimate in one of Bath’s more urban hotels.

Location

Near the center of Bath on a residential side street

Located well within Bath city limits and about a two-minute walk from the city center, this hotel is very convenient for those in town for business or pleasure. It’s situated on a pretty typical city street, but since the area is more residential than commercial, there isn’t so much traffic. Most attractions -- including the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, and the No. 1 Royal Crescent museum -- are walkable from the hotel. It’s a bit farther away from the train station, so you might wish to take a cab if headed there.

Rooms

Clean and uniquely decorated with modern touches

Fashioned together from several old townhouses, the Queensberry enjoys its reputation of being homey yet unique. In fact, none of the 29 rooms are the same in this quaint boutique property. The result is a Bath experience that’s far from cookie-cutter. Modern amenities include free in-room Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and iPod docking stations. The marble bathrooms are spacious and most include shower/tub combos as well as robes, hairdryers, and quality toiletries. And the windows open so you can let in the fresh Bath air.

Features

Quirky bar, terrific on-site restaurant, 24-hour front desk, and nightly turndown service

The Queensberry calls its Old Q Bar “quintessentially British,” but it’s probably better called "quirky." The Olive Tree -- the hotel's on-site restaurant located in the basement -- is more modern in decor and serves up locally-inspired, award-winning breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Business travelers can also choose from food and coffee/tea plans during meetings.

The front desk is staffed 24 hours a day and there’s concierge service to help you plan your sightseeing excursions. There’s no on-site parking, but the hotel can arrange for valet parking for a fairly reasonable fee. While this property is lacking a fitness center or spa, perks like the nightly turndown service make guests feel pampered in ways that exceed the Queensberry's three-star status.
