La Rocca Camping Village
Localita San Pietro

La Rocca Camping Village is an expansive, lower-middle-range camping property, bordering Lake Garda. Its isolated setting between Garda and Bardolino benefits from forested wildlife and direct lake access, and the largely German and Italian families crowd here find features good. A great pool with stunning lake views accompanies plenty of on-site sports facilities, and an animation team keeps little ones occupied. Alongside RV pitches, the property offers 146 mobile homes and apartments. Typical of campsite setups, decor is mostly bare-bones, although solid amenities include kitchens and outdoor spaces. An upgrade will get you nicer decor, a flat-screen TV, and/or private whirlpool. Del Garda Village and Camping is more central, but also more basic.

Hotel Gardenia & Villa Charme
Piazza Serenissima 12

The three-pearl, 32-room Hotel Gardenia and Villa Charme is located a short walk from Lake Garda's shore in Bardolino, one of the best-positioned towns for catching the ferry to explore. It's also a 15-minute stroll to the center of town, where there are lots of restaurants. On-site, two outdoor pools, a hot tub, and Quadruple Rooms make this a suitable choice for families, although guests are primarily couples. Decor is dated and a bit bland throughout, however, past guests have raved about the staff's hospitality and attention to cleanliness. For more stylish digs, travelers could check out the three-pearl Color Hotel, which emphasizes art throughout the property.

Parc Hotel Gritti
Via Gabriele D'Annunzio, Via Lungolago Cipriani, 1

Parc Hotel Gritti is a three-and-a-half pearl property set on lovely Lake Garda, about a 10-minute walk from Bardolino. The 260 rooms are a mixed bag: some are nicely renovated and have balconies; others are badly out of date with orange curtains and tube-style TVs. Three restaurants and two bars keep everyone fed, and the wellness center with an indoor pool, whirlpool, and spa helps guests relax. The large outdoor pool is a popular place for everyone to hang out, and guests also have access to a private, grassy beach club on the lake. Travelers may want to consider the Parc Hotel Germano Suites & Apartments as well, which has rooms with private pools and a more uniformly modern style, but higher rates.

Hotel Caesius Thermae & Spa Resort
Via Peschiera, 3

The mid-range Hotel Caesius Thermae is a great spot for relaxation near Italy's Lake Garda, famous for its natural hot springs. The hotel offers plenty of amenities, but the beautiful waterfront location and the expansive spa steal the show. The price includes access to thermal pools, saunas and steam baths, though individual treatments cost an extra fee. Rooms are a bit bland given the hotel's advertised four-star status, but some have outdoor balconies with lake views.

Color Hotel
Via Santa Cristina 5

The people behind the Color Hotel clearly put a lot of effort into dazzling guests -- you'd be hard-pressed to find a corner of the hotel lacking fancy design touches or an art piece. The facilities are equally impressive, with four pools, two bars, a wine cellar, a renowned restaurant, and huge gardens. The location is great -- almost on the edge of Lake Garda -- although there is a busy road in between, which some rooms look out on. Rates are a bit below average for an advertised four-star hotel, but nearby competitors have fewer property features.

Aqualux Hotel Spa & Suite Bardolino
Via Europa Unita 24/B

The Aqualux is a luxury hotel and spa housed in a glassy and super modern building on the shores of Lake Garda. The 113-room hotel opened in 2012, and it aims to please: the grounds are beautifully landscaped, the free breakfast is excellent -- it even includes make-your-own juices -- and the on-site spa is superb. Even the most inexpensive rooms at the Aqualux have space to move around in, and all rooms include balconies. For a hotel of this caliber, Wi-Fi should be, but isn't free. The outdoor garden and numerous pools provide plenty of distraction. The hotel's minimalist aesthetic might not be for everyone, especially those who prefer a more rustic Mediterranean vacation. Amenities at the Aqualux are comparable to those of the nearby Hotel Caesius Thermae SPA, which also has stunning grounds, but is more traditional in design.

Parc Hotel Germano Suites & Apartments
Via Gardesana Dell'Acqua 10

The Parc Hotel Germano Suites & Apartments is an upscale property built into a hillside on lovely Lake Garda. The location is quiet and peaceful, yet guests can easily walk to the action in Bardolino in 10 minutes or so. The 73 suites and apartments are all spacious and have balconies or terraces. Some include private pools while others have outstanding views of the lake. The large outdoor pool is especially popular with families, and couples like the quieter relaxation pool. Another pool is inside at the fitness center, and there's also a simple spa and bikes to borrow. The lack of in-room Wi-Fi of any form is unfortunate. As an alternative, the nearby Aqualux Hotel Spa Suite & Terme has a more upmarket spa, but the rates are higher, too.

Hotel du Lac et Bellevue
Localita Santa Cristina

The 116-room Hotel du Lac et Bellevue is a pleasant three-pearl property with an excellent location on beautiful Lake Garda. Guests can walk to Bardolino along the lakefront promenade and in 10 minutes, making this a popular spot despite some flaws. Spacious rooms have flat-screen TVs, minibars, and air-conditioning, and some have lake-view balconies. Decor and furnishings, however, are tired. The restaurant serves all meals, including a free breakfast buffet, and the bar has live music on some nights. The pool has both indoor and outdoor sections, and there's a spa as well. The private pebble beach is a particularly lovely perk. Travelers who'd prefer something more modern could check out the Parc Hotel Germano Suites & Apartments, which has some suites with private pools. However, rates will be higher.

Hotel Villa Katy
Via Gioacchino Rossini 5

Nettuno Hotel
Via Dante Alighieri 41

The mid-range Hotel Nettuno has simple, old-fashioned interiors, but its location on Lake Garda is excellent, right on the shore and a six-minute walk from numerous restaurants in Bardolino's town center. The 63 rooms have dated decor and are showing wear, but they come with minibars, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi; plus, some have balconies with lake views. Features include a decent-sized outdoor pool, well-reviewed restaurant with terrace overlooking the lake, and free use of tennis courts a 15-minute walk away. Guests set on a hotel with more visual flair may prefer the nearby Color Hotel.
