The 54-room Wilson Boutique Hotel is located in a historic building from the early 20th-century. The rooms have an appealing, if simple, modern aesthetic, and some have terraces. The property is situated on the Avenida Diagonal, a main avenue of the city, which itself is located in a major shopping district; there are plenty of dining and shopping options with a very easy walk of the hotel. One drawback is that the property is located about a 20-minute walk to the nearest subway.
Scene
Small boutique with a slightly cramped lobby
The narrow lobby of this vaguely art-nouveau building has a few novelty lighting features, a couple of faux-leather armchairs, a tiny front desk -- and that’s it. The rooms are set around a winding marble staircase that rises directly adjacent to the front desk. The hallways here are a bit dark; some guests have commented that they can be loud at night. The clientele is largely comprised of tourists, including couples who don’t mind the need to walk a bit in the city and who are seeking the charm of an older building coupled with a modern feel.
Location
On the Avenida Diagonal, a 30-minute walk to many tourist destinations and about a 15-minute walk to the subway
The hotel is located on Avenida Diagonal, one of the main avenues of the city. It is a 15-minute walk to Paseo de Gracia and about 25 minutes to Plaça Catalunya. Shopping, boutiques, and a mall are all within the neighborhood. There is a bus stop across the street from the hotel; the nearest subway stop, the Diagonal stop, is about a 15-minute walk. Public transportation to the airport takes about an hour and 15 minutes via bus, and requires at least one transfer.
Rooms
Modern rooms with modern textiles in neutral tones
The rooms here have been entirely renovated; there is little, if any, trace of the original architecture or style of the historic building in these modern rooms. Brown bamboo flooring complements dark gray walls and graphic patterned bedding and sateen curtains; stall showers are more spacious than the average and have been outfitted in mosaic and ceramic tile. Technophiles may want to note that the power cuts when guests vacate rooms for the day, making charging of appliances impossible whilst away. All rooms have air-conditioning and a flat-screen TV; many have a small terrace with a couple of chairs and a table. Beds here frequently get high marks from guests.
Features
Pleasant breakfast area and honesty bar
Breakfast is served in a light filled upstairs room that overlooks the street and the large palm trees lining it; the area features pleasant wood chairs modeled after mid-century modern furniture, as well as light brown bamboo flooring. The overall feel in this area is modern and comfortable. Guests have noted that breakfast is generally good, but that there are many less expensive options within easy walking distance. There is a self-serve bar open to guests on an honesty policy. Apart from these two offerings, the hotel does not have many amenities.
