Bottom Line

Leisure travelers looking for a satisfactory hotel with a central location will enjoy Hotel Regina Barcelona. With the amenities and service expected of a three-and-a-half pearl hotel, there's one thing guests agree on: Hotel Regina Barcelona has a killer location. Just steps from Plaza Catalunya and Las Ramblas, the property is not only close to many tourist attractions but is also surrounded by boutiques, galleries, and restaurants. Rooms, though clean and modern, lack coffeemakers. Guests can also enjoy the relaxed vibe of the on-site cocktail bar, as well as the terrace lounge at the sister property Hotel Pulitzer.

Scene

A property with historical design elements and modern touches

The stone, arched entrance to Hotel Regina reflects the age of its building, with origins going back to the 19th century. Inside the property, touches of that period remain with original inlaid floors and wrought-iron accents. The lobby has the feeling of a study or library, featuring maps of different European cities, leather furniture, and a dark wood check-in desk. The tiny orange elevator transports guests to their rooms, where hallways are mostly neutral colored and showing a bit of wear and tear. The hotel's bar offers a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.

Location

Travelers looking to be near Las Ramblas and other sights will love the Regina's location

Between Paseo de Gracia and Las Ramblas, two of the most cosmopolitan avenues of Barcelona, Hotel Regina is steps away from some of the best boutiques, galleries, and restaurants in the city. It's a relatively manageable walk to the Gothic Quarter, the Cathedral, the Palace of Music, and some of Gaudi’s most revered architectural works. Plus the University of Barcelona is a mere five minutes to the west. A reasonably-priced grocery store is nearby while across the street from the Regina is a restaurant serving breakfast. Plenty of public transportation options are in the area as well.

Rooms

Clean and simple spaces with colorful bathrooms; some rooms have balconies

The 99 Rooms at Hotel Regina come in a variety of sizes, ranging from Standard to Quadruple units. Rooms come with flat-screen TVs and mini-fridges. Certain spaces have balconies, and despite soundproofing guests may still hear noise from the street. Some travelers also dislike the lack of coffee/tea supplies and free water. Bathrobes and hairdryers are provided as well.

Features

Popular cocktail bar is a friendly place to grab a drink and a light meal; off-site gym available as well

Hotel Regina covers the basics, but offers little in the way of extras. Its most popular feature is its on-site cocktail bar that serves drinks and light fare. There’s no gym on the premises, but guests have access privileges to a fitness center a few minutes walk away. While there's also no outdoor space to speak of either, the hotel's sister property next door -- Hotel Pulitzer -- has a terrace bar/lounge with a view. Back at the Regina, room and laundry service is available as well as meeting spaces for business travelers.
