Bottom Line

The 58-room Hotel Lloret Ramblas is a budget property situated in the heart of Barcelona on Las Ramblas, about a minute's walk from Plaza Cataluyna. Metro, bus, and train stations also are within an easy walk, as well as numerous restaurants, bars, shops, and attractions. Rooms are on the small side, which is not unusual in Barcelona, but they are colorful and attractive, and offer air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. Some have balconies overlooking Las Ramblas, but be warned that noise is a definite issue here. Breakfast is included for guests who book directly on the hotel's website. Features here are otherwise slim, so check out Hotel Curious as well, a budget hotel that adds bar and massage room.

Scene

Eclectic hotel with Old World charm and modern style, suitable for all sorts of travelers

Dating back to 1926, this five-story hotel eclectically combines Old World charm with modern appointments. Aside from its excellent location, it doesn't have a lot to offer, but there are several brightly colored armchairs in the lobby where guests can hang out while waiting to check in. A couple of computers are set up on modern glass and chrome desks for guests to use, and books and brochures are available to read. One wall features wallpaper simulating a bookcase filled with books, and funky and colorful modern art hangs behind the reception desk. With its location in the heart of Barcelona, this hotel attracts all sorts of tourists, especially couples, but also groups, families, and individuals. Keep in mind that the central location means that noise is all around, so this isn't the quietest spot to be found in the city.

Location

Right on Las Ramblas, close to Plaza Catalunya and public transportation

This hotel has a prime location on Las Ramblas, a one-minute walk from Plaza Catalunya. It's surrounded by numerous restaurants, bars, and shops, and metro, bus, and train stations are nearby as well. The Barcelona Cathedral can be reached in four minutes on foot, and MACBA (the contemporary art museum) is a six-minute walk away. The open-air food bonanza of La Boqueria Market is a five-minute walk down Las Ramblas. Barri Gotic is just on the other side of Las Ramblas for atmospheric strolls, and the Picasso Museum and the Chocolate Museum are about a 15-minute walk from the hotel. By metro, it will take 20 minutes to reach Sagrada Familia. Expect a 30-minute drive to Barcelona El Prat airport, or 45 minutes by public transportation.

Rooms

Compact and modern, with air-conditioning and free Wi-Fi, though street noise is an issue

The hotel offers single, double, and triple rooms, but all are compact, especially the singles. Decor is simple, though attractive, and features bright colors like red, teal, and purple. Superior Rooms feature boldly patterned accent walls, and Standard Rooms are decked out with modern art. Floors are tiled, and furniture varies from medium-toned wood to chrome-and-glass pieces. Amenities include flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, free Wi-Fi, air-conditioning, and safes. There are no dressers, and closets have just two shelves. It's also worth noting that double beds are frequently just two twins pushed together. Tiny bathrooms come with shower/tub combos, pedestal sinks, hairdryers, and toiletries. Some bathrooms have been renovated for a more modern look, and these have bidets. Certain rooms have little balconies with views of Las Ramblas. However, due to the hotel's location on the city's most popular street, noise can be a problem at times.

Features

Continental breakfast buffet, computer desk in lobby, free Wi-Fi throughout

With its excellent location in the heart of Barcelona's action, this hotel doesn't offer lots of features. A breakfast buffet is served daily in a sunny breakfast room with ornate molding, period detailing, and leaf-motif wallpaper. Selections include cereals, breads, pastries, fruits, meats, and cheeses. Breakfast is included in rates for guests who book directly on the hotel's website. Others pay a fee. Two computers are set up in the lobby, and Wi-Fi is free throughout the property.
