Scene
Basic, budget-friendly hotel that attracts couples, families, and vacationing friends
Hotel Canton is a no-frills property attracting couples, families, and friends for its reasonable prices and great location. It's housed in a historic tan building in Barcelona’s oldest neighborhood. It’s a bit rough around the edges, but that’s common among buildings in this area. The lobby is small and dated, with poor lighting and a loud yellow wall. Decor is limited to a small front desk, tiled floors, and dated leather armchairs. The common room is just off the lobby and has tiled walls, orange chairs, and posters and photographs that add a lively touch. The breakfast room is small, but has charming features including exposed stone walls, antique wooden chairs, and tables with iron legs. During our visit, this space had a musty smell and picked up outside noise.
Location
In the Gothic Quarter, within walking distance of the beach, attractions, and dining options
The Hotel Canton is in the Gothic Quarter, the city’s most historic area. Some of this area can feel a bit gritty, but it's also a wonderful spot to explore thanks to its narrow streets full of restaurants, bars, and shops. The hotel is only a 20-minute walk away from the beach and only seven minutes on foot from the harbor. The popular shopping street of La Rambla is a three-minute walk away and Gaudi's famous Palau Guell is a six-minute walk. The Cathedral of Barcelona is a 10-minute walk away. Some sights are best reached by metro, like Sagrada Familia, which is a 21-minute ride away. It’s a 22-minute drive to Barcelona Airport.
Rooms
Spacious rooms with dated decor, flat-screen TVs, and mini-fridges
Rooms at this hotel are clean and big enough to move around in and are larger than what's found in the average Gothic Quarter property. Decor is plain and simple, if not a bit dated, with light wooden furniture, blue-and-white-striped bedding, and tiled floors. All rooms are equipped with flat-screen TVs, mini-fridges, safes, and air-conditioning. Superior Rooms have kettles, and some rooms have balconies, though don’t expect lovely views. The bathrooms vary and have either walk-in showers or shower/tub combos, hairdryers, and small packets of toiletries. A few bathrooms also have bidets.
Features

Other amenities include free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, though there have been complaints concerning poor connectivity in many rooms. The hotel has a computer available for guest use for a fee and a few vending machines. Off-site parking is also available for a fee.
