Bottom Line

This tiny, funky 10-room boutique oozes charm and personality -- to some; to others, it's a dated, stuffy property. The interior is chockfull of vintage finds, and rooms have a similar look. Some are tiny while others are more spacious, but all have very small TVs and cramped bathrooms. The Eixample location on the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes makes the hotel a convenient place from which to get around and explore Bracelona. There is free Wi-Fi, but the small size of this boutique property means limited features and amenities. Those looking for a boutique with a more modern ambiance might want to consider the sleek Wilson Boutique Hotel, also in Eixample.

Scene

An idiosyncratic place brimming with antiques and character

This is no chain hotel. The L’Antic Espai is a totally quirky, charm-filled (depending how you look at it) boutique, stuffed to the brim with antiques, funky old artisan furniture, paintings, objets d’art, and knick-knacks: plates, porcelain figures, coffee pots, vases, a gramophone, the list goes on. An ornate chandelier hangs in the lobby.

The hotel’s owners were inspired by the Barcelona of another era, and heavy red curtains and a plethora of so much old stuff indeed translate into a funky vibe. It’s a dramatic departure from the sleek, modern style that prevails in Barcelona. There’s plenty to look at, and it’s all impeccably maintained and clean.

A stunning glass-enclosed terrace is full of sunlight and dense with potted plants. Like the lobby, it’s full of stuff, like a birdcage with tweeting birds and an abundance of candlesticks. With its comfy tables and chairs, it’s a truly gorgeous and relaxing place to savor breakfast or take an afternoon break.

Location

Conveniently located in Eixample, within a six-minute walk to Passeig de Gracia metro station, which connects to three lines

The hotel is located in the Eixample District on the wide Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, a major Barcelona thoroughfare full of bustling bars, restaurants, and shops. Passeig de Gracia metro station and shopping area, Plaza de Catalunya (buses from the airport stop here), and Las Ramblas are between a five- and 10 minute walk from the hotel. Several buses also stop nearby.

Rooms

Rooms have old-world style, and some have balconies or access to a quaint shared terrace.

Many rooms and suites have sliding doors that open onto a bright shared patio, complete with an abundance of lush greenery and pet birds, and other rooms have small private balconies. The shared terrace and thin walls mean the rooms can get noisy. High ceilings and chandeliers, Louis XIV-style brocaded chairs, bedsteads, and armoires make the rooms feel from another era. There is free Wi-Fi, and there are flat-screen TV’s (although the mounted sets are quite small). Bathrooms are absolutely tiny, as are standard rooms. Some find the decor more dated than historically-inspired.

Features

This tiny hotel does not have a long lineup of amenities, aside from the glassed-in terrace and free Wi-Fi.

This tiny hotel’s best feature is the sunshine-filled, glass-enclosed terrace, a choice location for breakfast, magazine reading, and wine savoring. There is free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel and room service, and guests are greeted with a free glass of sangria at check-in. Guests can use a computer in the lobby, or watch TV in a little TV room. There's no gym, spa, pool, or full restaurant.
