The Holiday Inn Express is a fairly standard chain hotel located in an up-and-coming business district near the Port of Barcelona, but far from the city's popular tourist spots. Rooms are small, with generic light wood furnishings and wall-to-wall carpeting that make for a chain-like (albeit contemporary) feel. The bathrooms are modern, though there is mildew in the tile grout. Apart from a small business center and drab bar in the lobby, the only amenity is a rooftop terrace that does offer nice views, but no seating. Free breakfast is a nice perk, but Wi-Fi fees are pricey.
Location
In an up-and-coming area of the Poblenou neighborhood, close to the port but far from popular tourist spots
The Holiday Inn Express is located in the up-and-coming District 22@ area of the seaside neighborhood known as Poblenou. It is a large area that is starting to experience a major overhaul, with industrial spaces that have been converted into hip housing for young professionals. There are not many dining options in the immediate vicinity of the Holiday Inn, but lots of restaurants, bars, and cafes can be found by the Port of Barcelona, which is an 11-minute walk from the hotel. Also, the nearest metro stop is just a four-minute walk from the property, providing a convenient way to explore the rest of the city.District 22@ is mostly used when referring to the far eastern part of Poblenou, where most multinationals and large corporations have their headquarters. In this area, modern hotels and corporate buildings tower over low-rises and local businesses. It is working towards becoming a modern and high-tech neighborhood, but is not quite there yet. There are a few interesting restaurants and shops, but everything seems to be still under construction. However, it is close to the beach and the bustling waterfront, and is well connected via public transportation to the rest of the city and the main tourist attractions. Also, its proximity to the Ronda del Litoral, one of the main thoroughfares in Barcelona, makes for easy access to the airport.- 21-minute drive from Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN)
