The 280-room Hesperia Tower Hotel is a luxury property located near the airport and the Barcelona Fair Grounds. With a massive convention center, casual and fine dining options, a sleek lobby bar, and free Wi-Fi, the property draws mostly business travelers. The on-site fitness center is part of one of the most famous gym chains in Spain, and features a spa, group classes, personal trainers, tennis courts, and an indoor pool. However, use of the facilities comes with an extra charge, except for suite guests. Stylish rooms have upscale, masculine decor, with a dark brown, eggplant, and gold palette, high-end amenities, and large windows offering panoramic views (in most). Free shuttle service between the hotel, the airport, and the city center is a convenient perk, but guests looking to explore Barcelona’s attractions may want to stay closer to the city center.
Scene
Luxury business hotel with sleek interiors and a massive convention center
Designed by famous British architect Richard Rogers, Hesperia Tower Hotel stands out among other neighboring buildings not only for its imposing height but also for the striking mix of gray concrete, bright orange boxy structures, and red tubular elements in its facade. Interiors are equally eye-catching, and the dark, sexy style incorporates black floors and walls, velvet accents in different hues, and gleaming surfaces. Despite the abundance of black, floor-to-ceiling windows make the space sunny and bright. A spacious seating area with black, gray, and silver velvet chairs and a fluffy carpet offers space to unwind by the front desk, but the centerpiece of the lobby is the large glass-enclosed bar area, decked out with gray and black seating, and bright pops of orange and red. A low black wall decorated with large sticks separates two of the seating areas by the bar, and curved metal lamps are retro touches that punctuate the overall cutting-edge design. The restaurant, located on the second floor, has a similar style, with a black, eggplant, gray, and orange color scheme, and huge floor-to-ceiling windows. But the most striking of the hotel’s features is the so-called Onvi (or UFO, in English), a huge glass dome topping the building with sweeping views. It used to house one of the on-site restaurants, but unfortunately is now only open for private events.
Location
In L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, an industrial area a 10-minute drive from the airport
The Hesperia Tower Hotel is located in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, a densely populated city outside of Barcelona with a growing financial center. There are an electronics mall, a gas station, and a hospital nearby, but little else within walking distance. It's less than a 10-minute taxi ride to the airport and the hotel offers free shuttle service to Terminal 1 several times a day. Although convenient for business travelers who need to either be close to the airport or attend meetings in the area, this location is less ideal for those looking to explore Barcelona’s major attractions. There is a metro stop a three-minute walk from the hotel, and the hotel also offers free shuttle service to the city center, but some may find this location too inconvenient for seeing the sights.
Rooms
Stylish rooms with free Wi-Fi; many have panoramic views
The hotel’s 280 rooms have the same stylish and sleek aesthetics as common spaces, with a brown, burgundy, gold, and eggplant color scheme plus lots of velvet accents and beige textured walls. Rooms are high-tech and luxurious, with electric blinds, flat-screen TVs, free Wi-Fi, and iPod docks. Additionally, all units have pillow menus and well-stocked minibars, but standard rooms lack coffeemakers. Tan carpets and gleaming dark wood closets and doors are elegant touches, but the use of bedspreads instead of duvets may be a little underwhelming to some. Bathrooms are large and sexy, with black floors and walls, separate toilet cabins with frosted glass doors, and dark wood cabinets. Most units have shower/tub combos, or even showers and separate tubs, but a few have walk-in showers with rain showerheads and jets. Suites and Premier units get access to the Tower Club Lounge, offering food and drinks throughout the day, as well as private meeting space. Request a room on a higher floor for the best views.
