Bottom Line

Situated on one of the most famous streets in Barcelona, this chic, modern hotel is within walking distance of some of the city's best sights. The Condes’ 126 rooms have understated, Scandinavian-style decor, large windows, and (in some) private balconies. A delicious restaurant, sexy rooftop lounge, and serene terrace are additional highlights. It's one of the best options for the price in Eixample, but those who prefer a location closer to the Plaza de Catalunya and Las Ramblas may want to consider Hotel Pulitzer (though it lacks the Condes de Barcelona's pool).

Scene

Modern, sophisticated hotel with posh decor

The classic facade of this former 19th-century palace is quite deceiving as to what lies inside. Upon stepping through the doors, guests are immersed in an incredibly modern, chic atmosphere. The guest rooms circle around the hotel forming a vast rotunda. A large spiral staircase in the lobby leads to the second floor sitting area, which is filled with comfortable, high-backed chairs, a computer, various couches, and a large glass wall that overlooks the downstairs lobby.

Location

Located in the Eixample business district on one of the most famous streets in Barcelona

The Condes is located in the business district of Eixample on Paseo de Gracia, one of the most popular streets in Barcelona with tons of shops, restaurants, and bars. This neighborhood is famous for its 19th-century architecture, and near some of the city's most famous attractions. Architectural points of interest such as Gaudí's Casa Milà and Casa Batlló are just short walks away. Both Las Ramblas and Barcelona Cathedral are less than a 10-minute drive to the south, or 20 to 25 minutes away by foot. It's just under a 20-minute walk to La Sagrada Familia. It's a 17-minute drive to Barcelona-El Prat Airport.

Rooms

Soundproof rooms with contemporary decor and floor-to-ceiling windows

These sleek, soundproofed rooms have contemporary furniture, hardwood floors, and large windows overlooking the streets of Barcelona. Each unit comes with a small desk, flat-screen TV, safe, and mini-fridge. There are several room choices -- Classic, Design, Condal, Executive, and Suite -- all of which vary in size and layout. (Some come with a private balcony.) The bathrooms are clean and sophisticated, with slate tiled walls, his and her sinks, glass shower doors, a separate toilet area, and free Rituals toiletries.

Features

Rooftop swimming pool, solarium, and lounge

Barcelona is definitely not lacking in places to visit, but the Condes offers plenty of quality options for dining, lounging, and relaxing. Loidi is an esteemed on-site bistro overseen by chef Martin Berasategui, serving a breakfast buffet for guests as well as an a la carte menu for lunch and dinner, focusing mainly on Mediterranean and seafood dishes. The decor is simple but modern and offers outdoor seating. There’s also the swanky Alaire Terrace Bar located on the roof of the hotel, where guests can grab a drink and relax on one of the glamorous white couches while taking in the cityscape. A more tranquil scene can be found at the rooftop terrace and small pool. The Condes is also a suitable place to hold business meetings or events, as it provides several large rooms for functions that are equipped with the latest audiovisual equipment.
