The Catalonia Port Hotel,
a boutique branch of Spain’s Catalonia Hotels chain, is an upscale property in Barcelona’s historic Ciutat Vella, or Old City. Situated in a landmarked 18th-century
building, the hotel has 41 sleek, contemporary rooms with tiny terraces. Amenities include a fitness center, a courtyard pool, and an excellent on-site restaurant,

Scene

Historic building with sleek, contemporary interiors

The hotel is located in an 18th-century building with Juliet balconies. Heavy wooden
doors open onto a vaulted, whitewashed lobby with light marble floors punctuated
by white retro furniture and antique pieces. Hardwood-lined stairways with
sleek, recessed lighting lead the way to a second-floor lounge with plenty of
comfortable seating to read the free newspapers or sip a drink from the small
bar. The on-site El Raco del Port Restaurant is a chic setting for a meal, with streamlined, contemporary furnishings and a seasonal menu that attracts a mix of
locals and tourists. Though the
chain draws its share of business travelers, most guests are tourists here.

Location

In the Old City, a short block from the Mediterranean Sea

Catalonia Port is about is central as it gets. It's just two blocks from the Mediterranean Sea and within Barcelona’s Ciutat Vella (Old City), within a 10-minute walk of many of the city's major sights. Nearby attractions include the
bustling La Rambla pedestrian thoroughfare, the trendy shops and nightclubs
of the Born neighborhood, and Barcelona’s historic port. The Drassanes metro
stop is a five-minute walk from the hotel and connects with stations around the
city for access to the Eixample district and Sagrada Familia. The beach at
Barceloneta and Plaza Catalunya each take about 20 minutes to reach on foot,
though taxis can make the same trips in less than 10 minutes. The Aerobus from
Plaza Catalunya to the city's airport, takes about 40 minutes, while a taxi from the hotel to the airport should
take around 20 minutes.

Rooms

Contemporary rooms with thoughtful details

Rooms are solidly contemporary, with soft-red accent walls, recessed
lighting, decorative dark-wood headboards, and simple, modern furniture in the same dark veneer. Standard Rooms are a bit small, and come with desks, gray modern
chairs, safes, flat-screen TVs, minibars, and comfortable twin or double beds
with garnet accent pillows and striped runners. Superior Rooms and the Junior
Suite are larger and have extras such as electric kettles with free coffee and
tea, as well as welcome chocolates and a free bottle of water. Some Superior Rooms have stone doorways that separate cozy nooks with plush chairs that open onto Juliet balconies. The Junior Suite has a huge terrace with a private hot
tub. Bathrooms have marble walls, large granite vanities, and walk-in rainfall showers.

Features

Outdoor pool and on-site El Raco del Port Restaurant with seasonal menus

El Raco del Port
Restaurant attracts locals and tourists as well as hotel guests and serves an
excellent seasonal menu of Spanish dishes. Their prix-fixe menu includes a
glass of wine and is a great value for such a sophisticated atmosphere. The
restaurant also serves the hotel’s breakfast buffet, which includes a wide
selection of continental options and local specialties, but alas it's not included in most room rates. Free tapas are also available in the early evening and room service is available, though it's provided by an off-site caterer. A
courtyard terrace off the back of the hotel is outfitted with stylish, dark
wicker furniture and has a small seasonal pool. There's also a small fitness
center on site with three cardio machines, a set of free weights, and free
bottled water. A small bar attached to the lounge serves cocktails and snacks
throughout the day, and the space is good for unwinding, with plenty of
comfortable seating, free newspapers, and a flat-screen TV. Free Wi-Fi is
available throughout the hotel, and there's a business center with a printer and a small meeting room on
site. The 24-hour front desk can provide concierge services, car bookings, dry cleaning, and laundry.
