This massive, modern hotel with 338 rooms right by the Plaça d'Espanya is convenient for businesspeople (with easy access to the nearby exhibition center) and tourists who don’t mind taking the metro to the city’s main attractions. Rooms are bright and stylish with flat-screen TVs and big bathrooms. It’s a decent value for the amenities, though if you don’t need a pool and want to stay in the same area, it’s worth comparing rates with the nearby Hotel Vilamari.
Scene
Big, bright, and sleek
The expansive lobby is sleek, but bright, with massive gold pillars and plenty of armchairs, couches, and some colorful, spherical artwork. The buffet restaurant has an impressive white tented ceiling and glass walls.
Location
On the Plaça d'Espanya, with easy access to public transportation
The Hotel sits on the Plaça d'Espanya, one of the city's biggest squares, right near the Fira de Barcelona (which hosts trade shows), Joan Miró Park, and the Las Arenas shopping center, a bull-fighting ring that was converted into a shopping center. The Magic Fountain of Montjuïc is about a 10-minute walk away, and it’s about 15 minutes to the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya. There’s a metro stop right outside the door, with a 25-minute ride to both the Sagrada Familia and the Park Güell. Walking to La Rambla takes about 30 minutes.
Rooms
Large and modern, with chic decor
The 338 fairly spacious rooms have a stylish, minimalist aesthetic with boxy, modern furniture. Standard Rooms are decorated in black and gray, with light-colored wood furniture, while the Junior Suite and Superior Rooms have a brighter white, silver, and red color scheme. The Suite is very masculine, with metallic brown and red tones. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, minibars, robes and slippers, and hairdryers. A safe is available, but requires a deposit. The large bathrooms have curtained shower/tub combos in the Standard Rooms and attractive stall showers in the Superior Rooms and suites. The Suite also has a whirlpool tub.
Features
Rooftop pool, spa, and restaurants
The gorgeous rooftop pool area has ample loungers and daybeds, as well views of the Plaza de España. There's an adjacent bar and several dining tables and chairs. The hotel also has a small gym and seven meeting rooms. The Alegria Spa Filigrana restaurant and Umo Japanese restaurant, which provides a nice alternative to tapas, are inside the hotel but are managed by an outside company.
