The 141-room Ayre Hotel Caspe is modern and large, with pops of inspiring avant-garde designs and furniture. It largely attracts budget-minded couples, and is particularly geared towards business travelers with its nine spacious meeting rooms, a business center that includes two PC computers and a printer, free Wi-Fi, 24-hour front desk service, a gym, and an on-site restaurant and bar. Rooms are more inviting than the common areas (which can feel a bit sterile), but are pretty basic -- aside from the spacious bathrooms and attractive, modern fixtures. The Confortel Auditori, around the corner, has more stylish rooms at similar prices and offers a rooftop pool.
Scene
Futuristic and modern lobby with plenty of natural light
The bright lobby of the Ayre Hotel Caspe (which opened in 2004) is washed in natural light and features a futuristic art sculpture that hangs from the ceiling's skylight, dangling above modern triangular black-and-white chairs. The lobby's kitchen-style stainless steel doors, light-colored walls, and white marble floors, however, make the space feel slightly sterile, it lacks the charm of some smaller hotels nearby. Natural light pervades the property, including the white-walled hallways that have black carpet runners, a wall of windows, and light wood doors. The hotel's restaurant is large and modernly decorated, but its low-hanging, grey-tiled ceiling makes the space feel slightly confining. Most guests are budget-minded couples or business travelers attracted to the hotel's many business-friendly amenities.
Location
On a residential street in a quiet Barcelona district
Located in a quiet residential district of Barcelona, the Ayre Hotel Caspe is a bit removed from the tourist-congested areas of the city, which is a positive for some and a drawback for others. The city's attractions, restaurants, lively Las Ramblas area, and other must-see attractions are some distance away -- about 30 minutes. But guests also don't have to deal with heavy tourist foot traffic near the hotel. It's about 25 minutes by bus or subway to the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art. The Placa Catalunya, the center of the city, is a 15-minute ride on a public bus. The Tetuan and Arc de Triomph subway stations are a six-minute walk away. Historical sites like the Sagrada de Familia church, built in the 1880s, is a 10-minute walk. Getting to and from the Barcelona El Prat Airport takes 20 minutes by car.
Rooms
Bright, modernly furnished rooms with sleek bathrooms; most of drab views
Compared to the modernistic feel of the hotel's lobby and common areas, the rooms have a warmer and airier quality with light wood headboards and nightstands ,and cool-colored draperies. Rooms are basic for an upper-middle-range chain hotel with free bottled water, flat-screen TVs, wood floors, free Wi-Fi, and a lot of natural light. Bathrooms are large, bright, and feature modern sinks, bathtubs, and showers. Most have unattractive views of walls and buildings, but some have views of the church.
