20-minute ride away from central Barcelona
For business or leisure travelers who don't mind being removed from the hustle and bustle of central Barcelona, the three-and-a-half pearl Alimara is a good value, and offers easy metro access to many tourist attractions. The hotel is clean and modern and has a few amenities, including a pretty central courtyard, a small fitness center, an a la carte restaurant, and a separate breakfast buffet restaurant. However, the property lacks a pool. The 156 rooms are clean and spacious, with features that include flat-screen TVs and air-conditioning. The hotel's location just off the busy Ronda de Dalt means some guest rooms are subject to noise, though. Request a room on the opposite side of the hotel from the motorway for a quieter room. Business travelers will likely find the express check-in/checkout and 14 meeting rooms useful.
Scene
A mix of business and leisure travelers
With its location about 20 minutes outside the city center, Alimara isn't the kind of place that attracts a party crowd. Instead, travelers will find a mix of business and leisure travelers, including some families. The hotel itself is about 20 years old, as its proposed completion was slated to coincide with the Summer Olympics held in Barcelona. However, the project was delayed and it opened later than planned. But the end result was worth the wait -- the hotel's public spaces are cool and modern, primarily featuring white, black, and grey marble and tile with pops of pink to brighten the decor. One feature that sets the property apart from hotels in bustling central Barcelona is its large, lush courtyard that makes for a serene outdoor spot to be enjoyed by guests.
Location
It's a 20-minute ride from central Barcelona, but there's a metro station less than a five-minute walk away.
Located in a residential section of Barcelona called Horta, the Alimara is near Hospital Vall d'Hebron and less than a five-minute walk from the Mundet metro station. From there, it's a 20-minute ride to central Barcelona. Gaudí’s Parc Güell is four metro stops from Mundet. Nearby is beautiful Labryinth Park, which visitors enjoy for its gardens -- including a maze -- and water elements. The hotel is also easily accessible by car and is located just off Ronda de Dalt.
Rooms
Clean and modern rooms with air-conditioning and flat-screen TVs
The design aesthetic of Alimara is a modern, clean one consisting mainly of neutral tones, and this carries over from public spaces to the 156 guest rooms. Each room -- from standard to suite -- is clean and spacious and has a flat-screen TV, desk, and air-conditioning (though some guests have complained about the AC not working). Bathrooms feature tiled showers and hairdryers attached to the walls. Family-size rooms are available, which can accommodate up to four people. There is some noise from the street, so request a room opposite the side of the hotel that faces the motorway for a quieter experience. In-room Wi-Fi costs extra and some have guests have complained that the signal is spotty.
Features
A lush courtyard, an a la carte restaurant serving Mediterranean food, and a separate breakfast buffet space
Given the hotel's location in the suburbs of Barcelona, guests of Alimara appreciate that the property offers two restaurants and a bar. The breakfast buffet restaurant features an extensive spread that includes hot and cold items. The a la carte restaurant serves Mediterranean food and has a children's menu. It offers both indoor and outdoor seating, with a chic, spacious dining room and a covered terrace area with views of lovely greenery. There is also a bar section that serves drinks and snacks. Travelers enjoy the property's lush courtyard, but complain about the lack of a pool. There is a fitness center, but it is quite tiny, with just a handful of exercise machines. Parking is available at an additional cost. Business travelers make use of the express check-in/checkout feature and the 14 meeting and banquet rooms.
