Bottom Line

The mid-range Coconut Court Beach Hotel offers fantastic value. The large beach is lined with palm trees, and is nicer
than that of many of the luxury hotels in the area. The pool area is large and scenic,
and the on-site restaurant and beach bar are convenient and popular. The hotel
has a great location close to Bridgetown, and bars, restaurants, and
entertainment are within walking distance. Other perks include free Wi-Fi, airport
transfers, and an on-site gift shop and convenience store. The dark, drab lobby and the rooms, though, are tired, basic, and nothing fancy. Bougainvillea Beach Resort, a similarly priced property on the south coast, has more modern rooms.

Scene

Casual, scenic, and relaxed

The four-story, '70s style, mint-green buildings look gaudy and dated.
The open-air hallways have dark-red tile, and there are no elevators. The hotel
comprises four buildings, and a small set of apartments across the street.
The lobby is long with multiple seating areas, but is also old and dark. The
same red tile in the hallways also pervades the lobby, and the red and green
walls add to the dated look. The window behind the reception desk has a
beautiful view of the water, however. The lobby has two computers that are free
for guests to use. Two small libraries, one English language and the other
foreign language, are housed in bookcases on the right wall. The lobby also has
a gift shop and convenience store.Down the stairs from the lobby is the large pool area on the left, which overlooks the beach. The on-site restaurant is on the right, and
the beach is down another short set of stairs. The property is spacious and
spread out, and these areas do not feel clustered. The tiered nature of the
property could be a challenge for those with limited mobility.Family-owned for more than 35 years, the Coconut Court has a relaxed
and casual ambiance. There is a good mix of guests, including young groups of
friends, retirees, and families.

Location

In Hastings on the south coast, convenient to Bridgetown

Coconut Court is a short drive to the capital city of
Bridgetown and the cruise terminal. St. Lawrence Gap, with plenty of
restaurants and nightlife, is a few miles in the other direction. The hotel is
walking distance to a number of restaurants, and there is a bus stop directly
outside.- Six-minute drive to the Gap

  • Eight-minute drive to Oistins Fish Fry
  • 10-minute drive to Bridgetown
  • 17-minute drive to Grantley Adams International Airport
  • 18-minute drive to Sandy Lane Country Club Golf Courses
  • 21-minute drive to Holetown
  • 25-minute drive to Harrison's Cave
  • 35-minute drive to Saint Nicholas Abbery and Cherry TreeHill

Rooms

No-frills and dated, with a bit of Caribbean flair

Coconut Court has 112 Studio Rooms and five Apartments. All the Studio Rooms face the ocean. While the amenities at Coconut Court make it a great value, the rooms are the downside of the hotel.Rooms are minimally decorated with white or red tile floors and
mustard-yellow or light green walls; the bright tropical colors do add a cheerful air. The beds are large and firm with minimal bedding and two
floral accent pillows. There is a dresser with a TV (some are flat-screens,
others are tube-style). Some of the rooms have dated green furniture and heavy
floral drapes. The balconies are scenic and have plastic furniture.
The bathrooms are small and basic. The Superior Rooms are a bit more updated with dark-wood
furniture, bedside reading lamps, flat-screen TVs, and wicker chairs on the
balcony. All rooms have kitchenettes with microwaves, full or mini-fridges,
electric kettles, and a few cups, glasses, and utensils.Because the hotel is located on the main road,
the rooms can be noisy.

Features

Large pool and beautiful beach

The pool area at Coconut Court is large, complete with tables, chairs, and lounges surrounding the perimeter of the rectangular pool. A
separate section houses a children’s wading pool and a whirlpool. There is a
scenic sun deck with lounges, and the pool area overlooks the beach. The beach is a few steps down from the pool, and is one of
the nicest on the island. Tons of palm trees provide scenery and shade,
although there are plenty of spots to lie out in the sun as well. The water is clear
and turquoise blue, and there is a man-made reef that keeps the water calm. The
beach is long and spacious, and although there are a lot of (self-service) lounge chairs, guests won't feel as if they're sitting on top of their neighbors. Guests are provided with one beach towel per person; there is
a charge for any additional towels. This stretch of beach is a nesting habitat for critically
endangered Hawksbill turtles. Guests may get to experience turtle hatchings at
certain times of the year. The hotel’s large, open-air Deck Restaurant is located by
the pool and beach and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The hotel also has
a popular beach bar located just under the restaurant. There is an activities room on-site where guests can plan
excursions and find information about the hotel’s shuttle.
There is no fitness center on-site. The hotel offers free Wi-Fi, although many
guests complain that it is spotty. For a bit more, nearby Accra Beach Hotel has
both a fitness center and a spa, and is still a good value.
