Reasonable rates and a convenient location make the Butterfly Beach Hotel an attractive option for budget travelers. The rooms are basic and typical of a budget property, with dated decor and sparse furnishings, although some have ocean views and kitchenettes. Located near bustling Oistins and the St. Lawrence Gap on the popular South Coast, the hotel is close to restaurants, shopping, and entertainment. The atmosphere around the pools and restaurant is lively and busy, although the pool can feel crowded. The two beach access points on either side of the hotel lead to a small and rocky beach, but there are calmer and more spacious stretches of sand a short walk away. Potential guests may also want to consider the Coconut Court Beach Hotel, another value property located in nearby Hastings on a gorgeous beach that is spacious, shaded, and scenic. Silver Point Hotel, another value property, has more updated, modern rooms but a less central location.
Scene
Unpretentious and lively scene popular with backpackers
Although the hotel is located on a busy main road, it's shielded by plenty of greenery, making it feel like a secluded tropical getaway. The reception area gets pretty busy and a room off to the side has a large seating area where guests gather to hang out, wait for flights, or play games. There is also a desk to book tours and excursions. The pool, restaurant, sundecks, and whirlpools in the back of the hotel have a lively atmosphere and many of the common areas in the hotel -- especially the pool -- tend to get crowded. The whirlpool cluster, consisting of three small pools, is beautifully landscaped and scenic, and overlooks the ocean. However, the area is small and only two tables and a handful of lounge chairs cannot hold many guests.
Location
In between busy Oistins and the St. Lawrence Gap
Butterfly Beach is located on the bustling and popular South Coast, between Oistins and the St. Lawrence Gap, each of which is around five minutes from the hotel by car. Both have lively restaurants,
bars, and entertainment – the St. Lawrence Gap is more touristy while Oistins has a bit of local flair. It's a 20-minute drive to Sandy Lane Country Club Golf Course and Holetown and Harrison’s Cave each take just under half an hour to reach by car. St. Nicholas Abbey and Cherry Tree Hill are a 40-minute drive away. The Grantley Adams International Airport is 10 minutes away by car.
Rooms
Simple budget rooms with dated decor
The 93 guest rooms at the Butterfly Beach Hotel are basic and have a budget feel. Like the main areas, the rooms are painted a tropical coral color. Keeping with the hotel's butterfly theme, a few colorful metal butterflies decorate the walls in the bathrooms. In some rooms, the furniture is made of cheap white wicker, though other rooms have newer wooden furniture and headboards. All rooms have gaudy bright Caribbean curtains and bed runners that add to the dated look. The bathrooms are clean and sufficient, but not modern.
The Oceanview Rooms have balconies with cheap plastic patio furniture that offer gorgeous views of the grounds and ocean. The Superior Oceanview Rooms come with kitchenettes with microwaves, four-burner stoves, and mini-fridges, as well as cooking and eating utensils. All other rooms have a mini-fridge and electric water kettles.
Features
On-site restaurant, busy pool areas, and sun decks
The on-site restaurant, Reef Bar & Grill, has a deck that overlooks the ocean and an inside seating area as well with a TV. The restaurant is open daily and is popular with both hotel guests and outside visitors. The main pool is located on the western side of the property. Because the whirlpool area is small and the beach is tiny and rocky, most guests gather around the pool, which can lead to congestion. The lounge chairs get taken quickly and many guests complain that if you don’t grab a chair early in the morning then you won’t get one for the rest of the day. There is, however, additional sunbathing space on a second sun deck by the hotel's cluster of whirlpools.
There are two beach access points, one on each side of the hotel. Both lead to a thin, small, and rough bit of beach and involve clambering over rocks or heading down a precarious set of stairs. There are no lounge chairs or umbrellas set up on the sand as the beach is simply too small. However, a short walk in either direction leads to a more spacious stretch of coastline.
The hotel offers free Wi-Fi in public areas and has wired Internet access in the rooms. There is also a small coin-operated laundry facility on site.
